Neato XV-11
$399.00
Released July, 2010
The Pros:Cleanings can be manually started or scheduled for when you're not around (right on the device itself). Uses a laser to intelligently scan the room and plot a course before starting to vacuum. Notes additional rooms and comes back to vacuum them later.
The Cons:Sometimes fails to return home if it gets stuck. Still can't clean as good as a fully powered upright vacuum steered by a human. High price for a tiny robot vacuum.

This vacuum is automatic, so that you just need set it up with the user interface and let it do its thing. Neato emphasizes the laser-based room mapping system, which uses RPS internal map technology to survey the layout in order to avoid obstacles, constantly updating when the room is shifted around or changed. When the Neato XV-11 is finished with one room, it automatically moves on the next room, or else returns to the charging base if cleaning is done. This room mapping system also makes this vacuum thorough and efficient, as it finds doorways and vacuums a straight line from there. The core of the Neato XV-11 contains a centrifugal compression impeller, which operates on jet engine airflow principles to create a high performance suction that can pick up pet hair and other tough to get at debris. The rectangular front design of the Neato XV-11 allows you to get into corners and up against walls. The dirt bin of the Neato XV-11 is an exceptionally large dirt bin (.69 quarts) considering the small size of the vacuum.
