Notepad++ is a free, open-source text editor program often used as a replacement to Windows Notepad, and as a fairly powerful source code editor. Notepad++ has been downloaded more than 8 million times from Sourceforge.net, has been translated into many languages, and includes numerous third-party plugins. The project is based on the Scintilla editor component and is headed by a single developer named Don Ho. Notepad++ supports syntax highlighting and autocompletion of many popular programming languages and scripts, and is fully customizable. It is a tab-based editing environment allowing you to have multiple files open at once in one instance of the program.

I love this program. I have a shortcut key on my MS keyboard that opens up Notepad++ and I use it for note-taking, and, ironically, product report writing for ProductWiki. (I used Notepad++ to start this report for example) It's also great if you have to wrangle with HTML, XML, JS, and whatever the web throws your way. The regex replace is very powerful. Recommend!

Thanks for bringing this program to my attention a few months ago, I love Notepadd++ and use it to write all my blog entries on CarZi.com

I used this program when I learned Java back in college. Since everything is color coordinated, it easy to keep your code well formatted and neat. Anyone who codes in a markup language would find this useful.

I really like Notepad++ - been using it instead of UltraEdit for awhile - bit lighter and had the features I want.

This is one of the best text editors I have used. Not only that it recognizes several formats and highlights text, it also allows editing files in multiple tabs, shows line numbers and other interesting features.
