The GeForce 8800 GTS is an upper-tier model in Nvidia's 8 series of mid-range, consumer desktop graphics cards. The SLI-ready 8800 GTS is available with 320, 512 or 640 MB of memory. With DirectX 10 support, even the 320MB GeForce 8800 GTS should run most of 2009's mainstream PC games with ease, although perhaps not at the highest detail settings, while the 640MB model would be more suited to today's most demanding graphics applications. The unit features 96 processor cores, a 256-bit frame buffer to maintain high frame rates, and a second-generation PureVideo HD engine, which Nvidia claims enhances picture quality for PC Blu-ray playback. Compared to the 8800 GT, the unit compensates in part for lower clock speeds with a greater, 320-bit memory interface, but lacks PCI Express 2.0 support.
