The GeForce 9800 GTX is NVIDIA's high end 9th generation graphics card specification, recently replaced by their 10th generation high end models the GTX 260 and GTX 280. Built originally on a 65nm process, the 9800 GTX went to a 55nm process in July 2008 (hence GTX+), allowing NVIDIA to make the card faster and cooler at the same time. Containing a fairly large GPU the 9800 GTX contains 754 million transistors. Introduced at 349 dollars, the 9800 GTX has seen a great deal of competition from superior offerings, both from the NVIDIA camp (with the newer GTX 260/280) as well as from AMD/ATI, with their new inexpensive offerings such as the Radeon 4850/4870 and more recently 4850x2/4870x2. Today a 9800 GTX card can be had for just over $200.
