Olympus FE-310

The FE series from Olympus focuses on slim design, ease of use, and competitive pricing.  The FE-310 boasts a 5x optical zoom that extends to a 185 mm equivalent -- by a tiny margin, the longest telephoto in the FE-3xx line.  On the other hand, the FE-310 has the thickest body of the series, clocking in at a substantial 1.2".  That added thickness accommodates a pair of AA batteries versus the proprietary lithium-ion batteries powering the other models.  17 shooting modes and in-camera help make capturing difficult subjects easy even for beginners.  While effective, this model's Digital Image Stabilization ("DIS") amounts to little more than automatic ISO control and fast shutter speeds (contrast this with the built-in gyro sensor and Digital Image Stabilization Edit of the FE-320 and FE-340, or the sensor-shift Dual Image Stabilization of the FE-370).  Further, no camera in the FE-3xx series is less sensitive to light.  An effective 640 maximum ISO combined with long focal lengths can still make capturing sharp hand-held shots a challenge in lower-light situations.  Video can be recorded at 15 fps, half of what most of the FE-3xx series can manage.
