The Olympus Stylus TOUGH 8000 is a more expensive, even tougher version of the Olympus Stylus TOUGH 6000. Along with being freezeproof to -10 degrees C, shockproof to 2 meters, and waterproof to 10 meters, the Olympus Stylus TOUGH 8000 is also crushproof to 100kg, something the 6000 model does not offer. It comes in three different colors: Platinum Silver, Midnight Black and Steel Blue. It is a limited 3.6x wide optical zoom, but that is perfectly fine for an average user's camera. If the photographer wants professional outdoor photos, or wildlife at a great distance, they might want to go with a more delicate, higher power camera, but for your average hiking photo this camera should do just fine. The Olympus Stylus TOUGH 8000 has a TAP control menu, a feature that allows the photographer to change the settings by just tapping the sides of the camera. It is compatible with both xD-Picture cards and microSD cards.
