Hey, I'm Omar Ismail one of the founders of ProductWiki

I'm a graduate of the University of Waterloo, with a degree in Software Engineering. I'll be passing a quarter of a century in 2008. Before starting ProductWiki I had a bunch of jobs in co-op including two 3-month stints at EA Redwood Shores studio working on The Godfather game.

If it's not obvious from my contributions to the site, I'm a huge gamer and think a lot about the game industry. You can catch me on Xbox Live with my gamertag: rastex. I prefer action games and crazy Japanese titles.

If you'd like to get in touch for any reason related to the site or not, my e-mail address is omar@productwiki.com

Ok, I'll consider that. I have a friend who's got a 20gb, but wants a 60gb, and I might be able to convince him to sell his 20gb to me.
Thanks for the advice.

Omar, if I'm in the market for a 360, what's my best bet on acquiring one? Wait until after holidays? Black Friday? Order online? Now? Later? I was thinking either the leftover $260 or getting the $199 and a used 20gb HDD.

First of all let me say I think this site is a great idea, I really like what you're doing here. But there are a couple things that might help.

First of all, I want to see what products have user reviews and how many total reviews.
And i think that a rating system would also be helpful, I know it's possible to sort by popularity, but a rating system would provide some additional depth.

Alright, now that that's out of the way I do have a question for you. I work at HP and we are looking into some online advertising. If we posted some product, would it be possible to have our own section? "CampusHP Hotspot" Perhaps?
I know we can post merchandise, but without a specific place to sort it I'm afraid it might get lost and separated amongst everything else.

We would probably be adding laptops, monitors, printers and accessories.
Actually, would there be a way to list my user name under each catogory, and then have all the different products there?

Something like "Campus HP Kid - Bringing you great deals and great products for college students, faculty and staff."

If you think some of this may be a possibilty please feel free to send me an E-mail at HE2@computiopa.com

Thank you for your time and best of luck with the site!

Hey, Omar! Please tell me why you deleted Child Sponsorship Portal at www.ecmafrica.org.

I knew people could comment, edit, etc. But just DELETE an entry, and with no explanation?

I realize Child Sponsorship Portal is a bit different than the other website entries, but the site says to make the best placement you can and others will help to reassign it if needed. That's a far cry from deleting it.

Please, I want to use the site fairly. This is a discouraging start. I feel you owe me an explanation.

"Is there someplace that I can get the "rules" for adding products-like the limit on the number I can have? I tried to put the URL for the products pics, but the only way I could get to allow people to access the products was to add a link to the site...if you have a way to get the product URLs to work that would be great. Anyway let me know about any links to product wiki rules. Thanks

hey omar, you should take a look at server logs for the people who have commented on http://www.productwiki.com/chaser-5-hour-energy-shot/ - it looks like a lot of them signed up for the site just to comment on the beverage - kind of stinks of the company trying to bias the report.

7.  avatar yale
Hey Omar,

Why aren't you ever on gtalk! Can you check my 260s and open up cases for me ;)

Hey Omar, my apologies - we weren't intending to spam, merely to add our products to the site. I thought this was an open forum, as I noticed some of our competitors on here. Let me know the best way to do this then, as we would like a few products highlighted - do we just maintain and update our page? Thanks. Doyle.

Yo - the webclip icon didn't work.

Will do once our router shows up, which should be later today.

Are there any DTV converter boxes on the site? You know, so you can watch TV with analog TV's after everything goes digital in the U.S? We just got a couple. You might want to make a category for that.

12.  avatar BaylorATO

Hi Omar... First just want to say... love your site. Keep up the great work~!

I am wondering if you might know the answer to what is really the difference between the Sony KDL 37XBR6 & the 40V4100 other than 3 inches. I notice that you are a main contributor on all the Sony TV info. I have read all the forums and people have asked this question but no one seems to give an real answer. Even SonyStyle.com when called can't really answer this question.

I see on this site that you say the 37XBR6 has Motionflow 120Hz... but from reading the AVS forums and specifications on sony.com they never say this is correct.

Basically it looks exactly the same as a 40V4100 other than size but there must be something different... after all it is a XBR series. Which has always meant top of the line with Sony.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated... as I am in the market for a new TV and if the 40" is not different from the XBR for the same price I might as well get the larger TV. Of course... I could go on about whether it is worth the extra money getting the 120hz on the W4100... LOL. But nobody seems to agree on that either. ;-)

Thanks... BaylorATO

D-sub refers to the connector type, a "VGA" connector is a D-sub 15 pin. Technically, either is correct but since it lists D-sub on the packaging I figured I would put D-sub to prevent confusion.

Sounds good, how was Europe?

Did you see that news article about the iPod mini that's copy and paste-ed and is about 4 years out of date? It's in the news section of this site, and probably could be a delete.

I realized that I sent the request to Ragnex instead of rastex, but appearently you caught that. I also sent you a request as duiu on XBL, it's an account on my friends 360. Have you ever had problems with your Xbox being unable to read Halo 3? His kept getting stuck at one spot and we cleaned it but it still did it.

New site design looks great (guys - but dont want to post on all your pages)

Really liking it, hadn't been around for awhile because of exams

by "skin" I meant the design.Quotes for the fact its not actually skinnable. You should model it off of PMIII. :0

I like the "this article is a stub" from Wikipedia on the Mario Galaxy Page.

I like the updates, they make the site a lot better. It looks a lot cooler and more professional also. The "skin" reminds me of something but I can't place it...

Hi
I think it looks fantastic, the keyboard looks awesome. At the moment I don't think I would be able to justify getting it, as my N800 is still working great. I would reccomend it to anyone who would listen though, as the price is also quite good (around 400 USD I think?) At least I consider it to be quite cheap considering what I know I would be getting. The GPS support, though I wouldn't use it much, is an added bonus.

I made an attempt, feel free to change it...

I'll look into it, I have an idea about a phone, and arrow, and a runner.

Hi Omar, thanks, I realized I did it wrong after I'd already done it. I plan to go back and clean it up when I get a chance. At the same time, though it is written from a personal perspective, it is a lot more informative than, for example, the relatively content-free marketing blurb under one of the other waterproof digital cameras: "A truly waterproof camera up to 200 feet. Going on some deep dives? A powerful external flash will illuminate those elusive sea creatures. Nessie, I've got your number." In all fairness, I hope that "reviewer" got a similar message.

48.  avatar KD1964
Omar thanks for pinning the article

Also, it would be cool to have an edit history of all products and articles so you can see who made it better or fixed things. Someone added several useful things to the DVD drive I put on and was wondering who. In the meantime, I'll just look at What's Happening.

About the comment viewing problem, it could be nice to have an option for recent to older, or older to recent, or viewing by user. This would make it easier to check for updates, and change to view in order, if you wanted to read everything so you don't have to read up. This could be saved to the user settings and the default would probably be old-to-new.

51.  avatar clq
RE: N800 (again) I did a general update on the product info. I am not sure how NPOV it should be, but I put in some stuff that wikipedians would call POV, but that I would argue is accepted (and useful) facts. I have to get to bed now, but tomorrow I will look over what I've written, perhaps add some more, perhaps some in-action photos. As English is not my first language a second read-through would probably also be useful. Let me also say that I love wikis of all sorts and that I am as happy every time I find one that might be useful for me.
Regarding your need for a palm/PDA, as much as I love the N800 I would not say it is a replacement for a PDA. Currently it lacks good personal management applications. Though very passable calendars, contact applications etc can be downloaded to supplement the inferior built in apps, they cannot be synced with a computer. Personally I am almost always in a wlan zone and use my gmail address book. I had a hard time actually justifying getting the N800 (as I'm still 17, and in the "beg my parents" stage), but now that I have it I have no regrets whatsoever. While I don't actually -need- it for anything, it simplifies quick wikipedia searches, podcast listening, quick mail checking/sending, news reading, IM messages, etc. And only half of what I'm using it for is "intended" usage. It doesn't do anything I couldn't have done with my mp3 player, mobile phone or laptop, but it certainly makes it much faster and easier. On top of that it is just, hands down, cool.

52.  avatar clq
RE: N800 As for Google docs I wouldn't hold my breath. It is not an issue with the N800, nor is it an issue with Opera; It is Google that has decided not to support it for whatever reason. I don't doubt that it might work in the future, but I don't think anyone has any idea when that will be. As for Zoho I haven't tried it myself, but others that have tried it says that it loads and works, though not very well (problems with the Ajax). As far as Google docs is concerned it might work on another browser, and I have seen the start of some projects developing other browsers. When it comes to my personal method of taking notes on it they are quite unconventional. I made a twitter account for that and I send notes to that account via twitter and pick them up when I get to a computer. It does have a very passable text-editor, as well as multiple downloadable text-editors.

55.  avatar silence omo7

I have one change I would make to adding games (BTW, nice addition to include the ratings). You should have release date sections for all three of the major regions (Japan, Europe, and U.S). Some games are region specific. Make it happen plz, that would be awesome.

I haven't really had a lot of hands on time with the computer actually. The breaker in the basement (where I keep the computer) is overloaded, so the power keeps flipping on and off. This is the reason my last computer crashed. We fear plugging it in until we get that fixed. So far, I have to say I'm not all that impressed. It looks great, nice and sleek. The functionality that windows XP had seems like it is not all there. Again I've only used it for like an hour. I guess I have bad luck when it comes to computers. Write a review on it when possible?

ABOUT PAC PIX: I found this game ot be enjoyable. It dosen't have much replay value, its kinda short, and drawing the arrows and bombs is sometimes iffy. I wouldn't have picked it up, but i got it on sale for like 10 bucks. It's a really fun game though. I was suprised how easy it was to draw pac man and guide him around the screen to eat ghosts. On a scale of 1 to 10, i'd give it about a 7.

Don't the wolves in The Day After Tommorow look totally fake, and i'm wondering, wats your console of choice. You don't seem that interested in Wii, but Xbox360 and PS3 are still out there. Send me a reply, alright =).

No worries, Omar. You don't fail. I absolutely love to see how riled up gamers get if you happen to offend their console of choice.
