The Onkyo TX-SR606 is the follow-up 7.1 receiver to the hugely popular Onkyo TX-SR605 released in March 2008. The 606 features an upgrade to 4 x HDMI 1.3a inputs, up from 2 in the 605, and will not only transcode video signals to HDMI but will also upscale to 1080i over HDMI. The Onkyo TX-SR606 can decode HD audio sources (Dolby TrueHD, dts HD-MA). The TX-SR606 can deliver 90 Watts (@ 8 Ohms) to each of its 7 channels, each featuring 5-way binding post connectors. The MSRP is $500.

My guess is that this receiver will sell for $550 and come out in June 2008. The 576 has an MSRP of $479, has 3 HDMI ins, and (I think) doesn't transcode analog to HDMI. Logically, the 606 should sell for more than $20 more.

The only real improvement I can see with this receiver over the 605 is that it adds 2 more HDMI inputs, and that it will upscale analog video sources to 1080i. I remain skeptical about the latter point.

I just noticed that the press release specs have this receiver at 140 Watts / channel @ 6 Ohms. That's a pretty significant increase over the 605 (90 W @ 8 Ohms)

Just a correction to my above comment, it looks like it delivers 90 W @ 8 Ohms as well.

I purchased the Onkyo TX-SR606 on 7/6/08 at the total delivered price of $389.77 through OneCall.com. It is everything that all the audio experts say it is in their reviews and evaluations. Trust me, you can't go wrong with this purchase. It has 4 HDMI inputs and all the latest cutting edge High Definition technology. It does have 90 W @ 8 Ohms.
