Oppo BDP-80
$289.00
Released January, 2010
The Pros:Amazing value - most of the same components as the BDP-83 for $200 less. Affordable price. Upconverts SD content to 1080i.
The Cons:Plastic front panel. Lower quality proprietary video processor than the ABT2010 with VRS by Anchor Bay Technology found in the BDP-83. Lacks a backlit remote.
The Oppo BDP-80 is a Blu-ray disc player released in early 2010 as a much more affordable option to the hardcore BDP-83. It maintains many of its superior sibling’s features—such as 1080p Blu-ray output, up to 1080i component output, and BD-Live Profile 2.0—but it lacks 24p DVD upconversion, as well as a few customer-installation-friendly options such as an RS-232 port and IR inputs/outputs.
