Each Mod2 satellite speaker consists of a pair Mod1 "orb-like" satellite speakers hooked up in parallel with maximum rated power output of 110W. Because of the parallel setup, the speakers have 4 Ohm impedance, but remain compatible with 6-8 Ohm receivers. The satellite speakers are available in four finish choices: black, white, hand polished steel, and hand-antiqued copper. The steel and copper options will cost an additional $200 and $300 respectively. Each double orbbed satellite speaker comes with a small stand. Other mounting options are also available.
The sub-woofer included in this package is the Super Eight that has been specifically tuned to match the Mod2 speakers. It features a 8" long-throw woofer powered by a 150 Watt Class A/B amplifier rated at a peak level of 400 Watts. It boasts a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 111 dB. On the back of the cabinet it has a volume dial, a three-setting power switch (On/Auto/Off), a phase switch, and a crossover dial. In "auto" mode, the subwoofer will turn on and off automatically in the presence of low frequency signals.
Orb Audio prides itself on the modular design, and you can choose to upgrade to a 6 or 7 speaker arrangement, or purchase custom speaker stands and wall-mounts to get your setup just right. The Mod2 system costs $1169, and there is a Mod1 system that features 5 single-orb satellites instead of the 5 double-orbs for $779.
