The top of Panasonic's SC-PT line, the SC-PT960 home theatre system once again pairs a 5-disc DVD player and 5.1 surround speaker system. The speakers feature the same tall, slim design as the SC-PT760 and Kelton Subwoofer system, for dynamic surround sound even at the lowest volumes, with the help of Panasonic's proprietary Whisper-Mode Surround technology. The SC-PT960 provides high definition picture even from 480p standard DVDs with the help of a 1080p upscaling function and HDMI cables for minimal signal loss. Unlike the other models in the line, it includes Panasonic's wireless speaker kit for rear speakers, keeping cable clutter to a minimum, and it still supports Panasonic wireless multi-room speakers, which are sold separately. The theatre features a built-in hard drive for storage of digital media, and fully supports iPod listening with the built-in Universal Dock. The SC-PT960 also features Panasonic VIERA Link, which surrenders basic control functions to an attached Panasonic VIERA HDTV for ease of set-up and simplified control.

Pros
- all the cords are color coded
- instructions are well written
- The optical connection is a step up from the older models (PT750)
- ability to view song titles and artist names on the TV monitor
Cons
- there is not a generic MP3 player port/input
- Only 1 HDMI output (no HDMI input!)
- only 4 settings in EQ
- The setup menu cannot be accessed unless your input source is DVD/CD. That means if you are listening to anything else (iPod, Digital-in, Radio, Aux), you must first select DVD/CD, and wait for a disk to load (a slow process).
- non-universal remote
- in 1080p, the movies have too much visual distortion/noise
- The wireless speakers are not really wireless. They are powered by an attachment that does NOT connect to the DVD player (this is the "no wires part")
- does not include a Blu-ray DVD player
