The Pentax Optio E40 is a basic, entry-level digital point-and-shoot camera. It offers an 8 megapixel CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, face detection, digital image stabilization, but little else in the way of features. Because it uses 2 AA batteries, and because of its small size and low price, Pentax has billed it as ideal for travelers. Reviewers describe the camera's image quality as average for its class, but mention that focusing speed is on the slow side. The E40 has been followed by the Pentax E50 and Pentax E60.
