Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH

The Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH is one of four new a/v receivers announced by Pioneer on May 7th, 2008. At $750, the VSX-01TXH is the least expensive of the new line that includes the VSX-03TXH ($1000), SC-05 ($1800), and SC-07 ($2200). The two "SC" models feature ICEpower technology with Class amplifiers. The two "VSX" receivers are expected to retail in June, however not much is known about their specifications and features with only a sparse press release to go on. The Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH will sit somewhere between 2007's popular VSX-94TXH and the upcoming Pioneer VSX-1018TXH that is due out in June as well for $599.

I have this amp. I replaced a Kenwood that I purchased about 8 years ago so that i could go from Dolby Surround to all the new formats, like TrueHD and Dolby Digital. Power is 110 watts x 7 channels, I believe. For me, this amp has so much clean power, it's breathtaking. I like loud music, but i haven't ventured any further than about 1/2 power. No need too, above that would be abusive to my ears. I'm running it through 7 speakers + subwoofer. All the speakers are older and are rebuilt 3-way and 2-way models from Advent and Optimus (nothing fancy at all). I thought I might replace my speakers, but after setting up the system, I don't feel the need, as I'm quite happy with the sound. The setup microphone appears to work very well, and not only does it adjust the sound stage, but I also believe it adjusts treble and bass for each channel (though I'm not 100% sure on this), but after I ran the setup, musich and film seem very balanced with plenty of bass (I am running a external sub).
The GUI interface with the TV is not the best, it's a little clunky, and the setup instructions are a little cryptic, but other than that, it's great!
BTW, my rationale for not going with one of the higher-level receivers like the 03 or 05 was b/c they appear to have the same amp and are all THX certified, so why pay for the extra inputs and bells and whistles if I'm not going to use them??
