Prang crayons are made from 100% soybean oil, making them an earth-friendly alternative to your standard Crayola. Crayons are typically made from paraffin wax, a petroleum product. Dixon Ticonderoga, the manufacturer behind the Prang crayons bought the rights to soy-based crayon manufacturing in 1997 and began mass producing the crayons for schools and department stores. The company claims that without the waxy consistency, these crayons produce a brighter and smoother color.
