The Intel Core 2 Extreme Computer Processor is a new line of quad core processor that is designed for both power and energy efficiency. These processors have four independent cores which shares a L2 cache that is dynamically allocated to each core on the basis of workload. It uses new 64-bit architecture which enables twice the amount of information that the CPU can process at a time. It also features a Digital Thermal Sensor that is embedded in the CPU that measures the temperature to optimize the operation of the processor and system fans. The Core 2 Extreme series also have Wide Dynamic Execution which improves the execution speed and efficiency of the processor, and Virtualization Technology which allows one computer to operate as multiple “virtual” platforms.
