The HTC Desire is a touchscreen mobile phone released by T-Mobile in March 2010 and described as a clone to Google’s notorious Nexus One. It maintains its competitor’s ultra-slim design, Qualcomm 1-GHz Snapdragon processor, and Google Android 2.1 operating system. However, the Desire hosts HTC’s improved Sense user interface with Friend Stream, which aggregates all a user’s social-networking data into one place. Plus, the Desire traded in the Nexus’s trackball in favor of an optical joystick that critics haul as “a much more efficient way of navigating.” Included also is Flash 10.1 compatibility for watching flash videos, a 3.7” touchscreen display with multi-touch capabilities, 3G connectivity, wireless networking, and built-in GPS with free turn-by-turn directions.

Samsung UN55C8000

The Samsung UN55C8000 is one of four 3D-capable LED TVs (UN40, UN46, UN 55, UN65) released in 2010. They each feature a built-in 3D processor and emitter that enable compatibility with multiple 3D standards. The 55” UN55C8000 sits right underneath its larger sibling, the 65” UN65C8000. Both units utilize a temporary design with LED edge lighting. Sony STR-DN1010

The Sony STR-DN1010 is one of four A/V receivers (DH510, DH710, DH810, DH1010) released in 2010. It is the top model in the series and Sony’s first-ever receiver to feature HDMI v1.4 3D pass-through technology, allowing users with a 3D Blu-ray Disc player and 3D HDTV to immerse themselves in a full-fledged 3D environment. The STR-DN1010 also features HDMI standby pass-through, allowing a user to continue to pass a/v signals to a display even when the receiver is turned off. There’s also an HDMI audio return channel, which lets the user send TV audio to the receiver with a single cable.

Additional Information

A user can still use a non-3D capable A/V receiver if they’re willing to run an HDMI cable directly to their display and a digital audio cable to their receiver. However, upgrading to a 3D A/V receiver like the STR-DN1010 is the recommended option.

Sony BDV-HZ970W

The BDV-HZ970W is the first 3D home theater system from Sony, set for a Summer release in 2010. The system combines a 5.1 wireless speaker system to create surround sound, with wireless rear speakers included, that has DLNA functionality and can be used to operate further purchased speakers placed around the home. The Blu-Ray player is capable of reading both 2D and 3D output at full High Definition and can upscale lower resolutions close to 1080p. The player can perform the upscale function for media from both online sources and discs. The system includes a wireless adapter that can be used to connect to the internet without the assistance of another device like a home computer; media can then be streamed to the player directly for use.

The Acer Aspire One 532h is a mid-grade netbook designed for the average consumer looking for basic computer features with maximum portability. The Aspire One 532h is Acer's first net-book set to be powered by the Intel Atom N450 processor and GMA3150 chipset. The Asus NX90JQ is a high-end 18.4" entertainment laptop. It first attracted attention at CES 2010 for its distinctive, though less-than-portable design, featuring dual trackpads and Bang & Olufsen speakers above and on either side of the screen, and will be released alongside the 15.6" N53JQ and 17.3" N73JQ in late summer. The range of available components is mostly identical across the three models, all intended to provide exceptional performance for a notebook computer. The Panasonic DMP-BD65 is a Blu-ray player set for release in Spring 2010. This player is in the middle of the line in terms of features and functionality out of the upcoming Blu-ray players from Panasonic. As the foundation of the system, the player has full 1080p functionality as well as an up-converter that upgrades 480/720p quality closer to 1080p. In addition to Blu-ray input, the player is also capable of displaying movies with an online connection from such services as Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand without connecting to another system or computer. The Slate is a 8.9" touchscreen tablet PC from Microsoft HP. The main selling point of this tablet PC is that it is nearly cell-phone portable, but still powerful as a PC. The Slate runs Windows 7, which is a little suprising for so compact a device. The Slate is capable of running Amazon PC Kindle software, which displays e-books and other digital media like PDFs, HTML and Microsoft Word files. There is no keyboard on the HP Slate, which has been criticized by commentators. There is an integrated webcam on the HP Slate, as well as a single USB 2.0 port.

JVC's HA-M5X headphones are a mid-range set and fall at the top of the "Xtreme Xplosive" (or XX) lineup. They are physically the largest model, and the earcups go fully around the ear. The earcups themselves provide ambient noise isolation, and there are soft pads around the edges to enhance comfort over long periods of listening. The underside of the headband also has padding and a camouflage design. The cups are protected against impact with rubber, and the earcups have bass ports to enhance lower frequencies. The Samsung SMX-F40 is a standard definition camcorder in Samsung's F-series set for a March 2010 release. The camcorder focuses on three main areas: user friendliness, battery life, and enhanced zoom features. To ensure the camcorder can be adequately operated by newcomers, features such as Smart Auto for automatic adjustments to color, contrast, brightness, and motion for high-quality video capture. Additionally, a face detection feature allows the camcorder to track selected people while in use for more focused recordings. The X500 is a forthcoming digital camera from General Imaging, to be released in February 2011. Its form factor is somewhat like a smaller SLR, and its main selling point is its relatively low price for its features, compared to competitors. These include a 16-megapixel sensor, 15x optical zoom, and 27mm wide-angle lens, as well as optical image stabilization. It allows manual control in different modes, like aperture and shutter priority. GE is marketing this camera as a "bridge" model, between entry-level point-and-shoots and SLR. LG INFINIA 47LW6500

LG's INFINIA 47LW6500 is a 47-inch 3D-enabled HDTV, to be released later this year. With similar specs to many of LG's other announced 3D models, the LW6500 series' main feature is that it includes four pairs of lightweight, polarized glasses for viewing 3D images, and also uses a different 3D image processing system (Cinema 3D) that will supposedly widen viewing angle and offer crisper picture than its other 3D models. The refresh rate for this model is 240Hz, native resolution is 1080p, and pixels are capable of local dimming. Seemingly standard for the new 3D models, LG includes a gesture remote and Wi-Fi adapter, as well as the Smart TV web interface to access streaming content.

Sony's BRAVIA KDL-32BX420 is a mid-range HDTV and the smallest of the BX-420 series. It has a 32" 1080p display with 60Hz refresh rate. Main features include multiple HD inputs (PC, HDMI and Component) and an automatic brightness selector based on the light conditions in the room. If used with other BRAVIA products (e.g. receivers, blu-ray players), its remote control can be connected with them to function as a universal remote. This TV has several preset display modes such as gaming or sports, and a USB input to display portable digital media. It has integrated speakers as well as a 5.1-channel audio output. It automatically shuts off when not in use, and has a 176 degree viewing angle from both vertical and horizontal directions. Two other models in the series, the KDL-40BX420 and the KDL-46BX420, are identical in features except for larger screen sizes.

The Razor Chimaera will include features a base station that will connect to the Xbox 360 console or additional audio devices (fully supported devices have yet to be announced) and also doubles as a charging dock, an integrated microphone for full in-game chat support, and a unique ear-hugging design.

It is important to note that the manufacturer Razer is well known for it's high-end PC gaming equipment usually used by professional gamers internationally. The Chimaera headset device and partnered Onza Xbox 360 controller will be Razer's first venture into the console world.

The LG 60PK550 is the 60 inch member of the PK550 series of plasma televisions announced at CES 2010. It is the largest member of the series which includes two other sizes: 42 and 50. It is built with a slender frame so that doesn't take up as much space as a traditional big screen television. It has a USB connection and HDMI inputs. The LG 60PK550 includes the LG new panel which is designed to reduce reflections inside of the plasma panel. LG's INFINIA 55LW6500 is the second in the upcoming LW6500 series of flat-panel, 3D HDTVs. One main selling point is that this model includes four pairs of lightweight 3D glasses, and the LW6500 models are LG's only TVs that include these out-of-box. Also, it uses a more advanced and crisp 3D processing system (called Cinema 3D) than other LG models. This particular unit has a 55-inch display, backlit by LEDs, and has a very thin form factor. Augen's Gentouch Dolce is a mid-range tablet computer, and the highest model in the Gentouch series. It has a 101-inch capacitive touch screen with 1064 x 768 resolution and an accelerometer, as well as a front-mounted webcam. Augen's Gentouch Espresso is an entry-level tablet PC that falls in the middle of the Gentouch lineup, and its main upgrade over the Latte and Latte Grande models is its processor, a 1GHz ARM Cortex A9. Storage capacity is also higher, up to 8GB over the basic models' 2GB, and it includes a front-facing webcam. The build is more durable than that of the Latte models, and it features chrome edges with a plastic backing. It can be used with a docking station, the Doppio, which includes a 160GB hard disk and adds about 5 hours of battery life, as well as a physical keyboard. The Espresso marks the first Augen tablet that steps out of the purely budget range, though its price point is still under $300. Its operating system is Android 2.2.

Augen's Gentouch Latte is an entry-level tablet computer for those on a budget. It is similar to the Gentouch 78, with many of the same features, and still has a low price point of around $150. It features an 800MHz processor and 2GB of storage space, and it uses Android 2.2 as an operating system. It uses a resistive touchscreen display but also has some navigation buttons on the side, as well as an accelerometer. The use of a resistive display greatly reduces the cost over the next model up, the Latte Grande, whose specs are identical save for the use of a capacitive touchscreen. Resistive displays, however, are not as bright in sunlight and require significantly more pressure to use than capacitive ones.

LG's INFINIA 65LW6500 has the largest display size in the upcoming LW6500 series of flat-panel, 3D HDTVs. It has a 65-inch screen that uses LED backlighting, and a slim bezel and form factor. JVC's Everio GZ-HM860 is a high-end HD camcorder scheduled for release in February 2011. At its core this model strongly resembles the pricier GZ-HM960, and indeed many of the features are the same. The only real differences are that this one lacks the 2D-to-3D converter and 3D LCD display. Otherwise, they are similar: 1080p HD video recording, included HDMI cable, specialized optics for use with this particular high-res sensor (10.1 MP). Onboard memory is 16GB and the lens has a large aperture for better performance in low-light. Optical zoom telescopes to 10x, and still images can be taken at 11 megapixel resolutions. Other main features include Bluetooth connectivity for transfer among wireless devices, smile detection and intelligent auto shooting mode, an integrated image stabilizer and LED flash/camera light. While it does lack the 3D features and touchscreen, the GZ-HM860 is the most feature-rich non-3D camcorder from JVC, and its price is $200 lower than the 3D version.

The XVTPRO720SV is a LED HDTV from Vizio announced at CES 2010 in Las Vegas. As part of the XVT Pro series, this 72-inch television is compatible with Sensio 3D technology, meaning home theater viewers can utilize XpanD shutter-style 3D glasses to make the most of their HD viewing experience. Unlike other 3D television sets, this model from Vizio can display 3D content at a full 1080p resolution by quickly alternating left-eye/right-eye images to the glasses over a wireless Bluetooth connection. The Samsung N150 Plus Adidas Special Edition is a duplicate of the Samsung N150 netbook, except it was designed in anticipation of the 2010 World Cup. Therefore it incorporates a glossy white color with World-Cup-graphics on the outside, a tiny Adidas logo in the lower-right corner, a matching mouse, a matching gift pouch, and a Bluetooth 3.0 module. All other specifications remain the same, including an Intel Atom N450 (1.66GHz) processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, a 160GB SATA HDD, a 10.1 WSVGA display, integrated Intel graphics, and both wired/wireless connectivity options.
