Well it took a couple of weeks but I finally saw the movie. Was dialup correct when he predicted that I wasn't going to like it? I'll saw that he was wrong. I liked it quite a bit, but there were definitely some problems that I had with the movie. The opening shot where Harry is sitting in the field is awesome, and I have to admit that my favorite parts of the films are usually the beginning before they go to Hogwarts. This one was by far the best beginning as Harry is coming of age and the problems are more mature and serious than silly.
I really liked Dumbledore's Army as well. Finally they're doing magic on a consistent basis and doing some pretty cool stuff at that. And the final battle scene was damn sweet. I can't wait to see how they handle Harry Potter 7, I feel it's going to really outclass the book if they stay true to the source.
My problems are endemic to the series as a whole, and I have another specific problem with the movie itself. In general the storytelling of HP isn't very good. This is especially true in the 7th book and I've already made the remark about stilted pacing, and Rowling's over use of convenient plot devices. In OOTP there weren't any ridiculous plot devices used which I appreciated, however there some conveniently skipped parts. They're like "we need to go to the ministry!" "let's fly" and then POOF they're in the Chamber of Mystery. I mean didn't they have to sneak INTO the ministry itself? I'm sure they couldn't have just walked in.
Also the dialog was very forced. Everybody delivered there lines in an extremely stilted manner which was just awkward. I don't know if it's supposed to be like that because they're stressed, since in the previous films everybody talked fine. But it was just weird.
Just to reiterate though so dialup doesn't get too pissed off at me. The movie is good. Definitely recommended. Number 3 is still my favorite movie though.
