The iRobot Roomba series of vacuum cleaners revolutionized the way people vacuumed, making it more of a passive chore than an active necessity. The automated robotic vacuum allows people to schedule their vacuuming as it's convenient for them and ensures a clean floor upon return home from work or a day out. The newest vacuums in the iRobot line are the 500 series, with the pinnacle being the 570. The 570 features an array of options for your cleaning needs, although the features may not be enough to warrant an upgrade from your previous Roomba vacuum. The biggest enhancement has been the addition of a wireless command center so that you can control where your Roomba is vacuuming. The addition of 2 virtual walls forces the Roomba into an imaginary enclosed area so that you can ensure an extra-clean floor. Weight: 12.5 lbs.

iRobot Roomba Discovery Vacuum Robot

The Roomba Robotic Floorvac has changed the way people clean their homes, and it’s the number one selling robotic vacuum in the world. The Discovery Roomba is iRobot's second generation of vacuums featuring a slew of improvements over the first generation. Dirt detection, virtual walls, and surface transitioning are a few of these improvements. The Discovery maintains all the regular features of the Roomba line such as always returning to the charging station and stair and wall avoidance.

iRobot has programmed three different kind of cleaning modes to be used in various situations. Clean mode tells the robot to thoroughly clean one room before returning to its charging station. Max mode lets Roomba clean as far and wide as it can until the batteries run out until there is just enough for the Roomba to head back to the charging station. Finally the Spot setting kicks in when the Roomba detects a part of the flooring that requires special attention and runs over the same small area until it's clean.

iRobot claims its surface transitioning technology detects the kind of floor the Roomba is currently on (tile, carpet, etc) and adjusts suctioning power accordingly. This model does not have scheduling capabilities and must be launched manually by pressing a button on the Roomba itself or by using the included remote control.

Versions

There are two different Discovery models. The 4120 is the standard model, while the SE 4220 is the higher end model that features all the same technology as the standard but is larger with a larger dust bin.

The iRobot Roomba Scheduler is similar to the other vacuums in the Roomba line and adds scheduling features so you can instruct this robot vacuum to do its work when its most convenient for you. The Roomba scheduler can run for approximately 120 minutes while cleaning before it automatically will return to its charging station and recharge. The Scheduler includes a remote control with an LED display to help you schedule your Roomba.
