Review: Rayman Raving Rabbids

Cute little bunnies have taken over the world and trapped Rayman, forcing him to perform tasks to earn the Rabbids trust. The tasks in question are a series of minigames.

My Opinion

There is a fairly large collection of 75 minigames to choose from as you progress through the adventure, though the game only lets you pick from 4 each day. Some of the games are only more difficult versions of games you've played before, however. As in every minigame collection, there are a few boring or dowright bad games. In Rayman this occurs very few times. The controles for every single game perform perfectly, except in the game's involving the Wii-mote's speaker. This occurs only in two minigames, but its a fatal error. The audio cues from the speaker are key to beating the minigame. Without them its pure luck and prayers. The motion control makes the collection even more awesome, from disco dancing to running with explosives to smacking Rabbids with a hammer, the controls just work.  My gripe is that the game is far too short. I don't know why Ubisoft thought they had to have this title out for launch, they could have made a far longer game if they pushed the lauch date to 2007. After all they did have 6 or 7 other games available that same day. That being said there is a lot to do besides the 75 games offered in story mode. There's also a Score Mode where you can replay any of the games (including boss games like plunger gun FPS levels and cow races) to try to get a high score. The more points you aquire in this mode, the more bonus content you unlock. Mabey thats not that different from story mode, but its something else to strive for. A nice feature is that you can see your success and failures reflected in your holding cell. You start out with a concrete box with run down furniture and end with a suite fit for a king. If you choose to play every game offered each day (you only have to beat three) you are awarded with a new song for you jukebox or a new costume that Rayman can wear. Multiplayer is a blast. All of the mini's beg to be played with friends. If only the game was meatier...sigh.

My Rating

The game is too short, but what little time you have with it is immensly satisfying. The game is insanely fun to play, and the controls never fail to amaze.
