Red Steel Glitches

The more I've played Red Steel, the more I love the game. But I also hate the little glitches to be found. One of the most frequent and annoying glitches is that the cursor will randomely jump around the screen (it's not a huge jump, mabey half an inch at most). This glitch sucks (imagine if you enter a courtyard stealthily and are about to snipe a guy on the balcony. You line up the shot and boom, the cursor jumps, you miss, and every gun in the room is now pointed at you. The most prominent glitch in the game is that it will sometimes freeze and make an annoying buzzing noise. The game just stops, and you have to start over from your last checkpoint (after restarting the console and re-loading the game). This is a really prominent glitch, especially if you have just beaten an excrutiatingly difficult part. Its only happened to me twice so far though. Which makes me wonder, will the inevitable Red Steel 2 fix these promblems, or just cash in on the brand (some people really love the game).

Those both sound pretty annoying. The jump glitch is something that I've noticed in a few Wii games actually, and it's something that I am pretty wary about. What about Zelda, did jumpy aiming ever happen with Zelda? or what about Rayman? If it's just Red Steel, then it's just Ubisoft's programmers that need to step up their game, and not an issue with the console itself.

There's something to be said for Red Steel being a launch title as well. Because the deadline is so strict with a launch title, and the console is so new, the launch games are always going to have some issues that successive games will have the time to polish out. So I don't think you have to worry about RS2.

Still, Red Steel could have gotten some more work. Ubisoft could have went the same route as Elebits, delaying the game to add online and tweak some other small things was a good move for Elebits.  Ubisoft didn't have to get Red Steel or Rayman out at launch, they had plenty of other games (though they were pretty crappy). The Zelda and Rayman aiming was pixel perfect, I have yet to experience and jumpy cursor glitches. I hope they still plan on making Red Steel 2, I've almost beat the first one and I love the game (despite the controls being crap). The biggest thing for RS2 I want Ubisoft to fix is the jumpy cursor, melee attacks, the game freezing up, and grenade throwing. I could live with some of the smaller issues.

The thing about launch games is that the economics of it means that the motivation for creating a polished experience isn't there. Because there's so few games out at a console's launch, the quality doesn't have to be very high. Whereas a game might be docked in reviews for the problems you mentioned, launch games get a lot more leway. So Ubisoft could've delayed the game, but they probably would've missed out on a couple hundred thousand units in sales, while spending even more money.

From what I've read, Red Steel has been a financial success for Ubisoft, so I think creating a sequel is definitely on the cards. That's the other benefit of being a launch title, you can establish a new IP and then do great on the sequel.

the jumping of the cursor is caused by bright lights in your room that effect the sensor in the controler, i had a string of christmas lights in my room and when i turned themn off the remote was as smooth as can be.. and if i pointed it towards the christmasd lights i coudl almost control the game without even pointing bear the sensor bar..wierd.. annyways, check yoru lighting, you may find a few ajustments in this can make thwe world of difference

I can play the game outside at night in the middle of a field and the cursor will still jump. I play games at night a lot anyway, so I don't think lighting is the problem. Funny you should mention the lighting though, I thought of that initialy. I also tried moving back away from the sensor bar. Both solutions to the potential problem didn't work. BTW, I beat Red Steel a few days ago, the ending was lame. In the last level you run on a fast flowing river! Awesome yet dumb.
