Samsung BD-P2550

The Samsung BD-P2550 is a Blu-ray player released in late August 2008 with an MSRP of $499.99 as a follow-up to the Samsung BD-P2400 from 2007. The new player adds 7.1 analog outputs, and the popular Silicon Optix HQV video processor. The included Ethernet port allows this player, along with the October release of the Samsung BD-P2500, to stream Netflix movies over the Web. Like almost all Blu-ray players, this will upconvert standard DVDs to 1080p output over its HDMI port. It also features a USB port for playing media and firmware upgrades.

BD-Live actually works! I had the Sony BDP-s350 before this and the BD-Live feature always told me that my harddrive was full, when in reality I never used it. BD-Live and LG-Live work perfectly with this player.

Cons:

No dts HD-MA high definition audio decoding even though it can decode Dolby TrueHD

Firmware update required for DTS HD MA support

Freezes unpredictably and intermittently when watching blu-ray movies. This happens even when discs are new and being played for the first time and after firmware upgrades current and lens cleaned with wind-funnel disc.

Bought this in 12/2008. A month or two later, started experiencing problems with brand-new blu ray discs freezing for a moment and then resuming--stop/start, stop/start. Figured it would be fixed through firmware. Wasn't. Samsung has horrible customer service policy--expects you to pay for shipping to/from and for labor after initial 3 month period.

Don't buy Samsung blu ray players. The company thinks you and I are chumps!
