Samsung Intercept (SPH-m910)

$200.00 Released July, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Affordable price point. Slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Nice large and responsive capacitive multi-touch display with good colour and contrast.

The Cons:Not worth it over a tier-one smartphone as most of the cost in owning a device like this is in the cost of the service plan. Samsung has had a very poor history when it comes to supporting their handsets after launch - cannot be expected to see an official update to 2.2 or beyond. EV-DO Rev. 0 only (slower and poorer latency vs Rev. A).

The Samsung Intercept (SGH-m910) is a midrange Android smartphone / QWERTY slider designed for a budget-friendly competitor to the EVO 4G and Epic 4G. It houses the Android 2.1 OS alongside a bevy of Sprint applications / bloatware (Sprint Football Live, NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile, Sprint TV, etc).

Plus there’s a n 800 MHz, ARM11 Samsung S3C6410 processor (same as the Samsung Moment), 256MB of RAM, and an included 2GB microSD memory card. It’s relatively midrange/standard, though critics are for the most part displeased with the unit’s slower EVDO Rev 0 modem (versus Rev A), which limits download speeds to about 700 Kbits/sec. Pluis the 3” capacitive LCD touchscreen is limited by a 240x400 resolution, which is unusual for an Android phone in that it might potentially limit the number of apps available to it.
