Samsung LED 7 Series

The LED 7 Series is Samsung's line of high-end LED HDTVs introduced in 2009 that use an LED edge-lighting solution and feature a native resolution of 1080p and Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology. All Luxia lines use Samsung's LED edge-lighting technology contained in a "super-slim" cabinet that measures around 1.1" thick. The B7000s are in the middle of the Luxia line situated as the step-up from the B6000s, and step-down from the B8000s. The main feature differentiating the 6000 and 7000 series is the addition of Samsung's Internet@TV connectivity, that offers Yahoo Internet widgets, and video streaming services. The step-up flagship LED 8 Series upgrades the AMP 120Hz to a faster refresh rate of 240Hz.

LED 7 and 8 Series Features

Internet@TV - expanding upon the 2008 InfoLink service Samsung's Internet@TV offers full Internet connectivity with richer Yahoo Internet widgets for sports, news and weather information, alongside Internet video streaming. The list of video streaming partners includes Amazon and YouTube and is expected to change/expand over time.

LED 6 and 7 Series features

Auto Motion Plus 120Hz - Auto Motion Plus refers to Samsung's motion compensation technology that uses the faster 120Hz refresh rate to insert artificial frames between the standard frames of the source video. Samsung claims this technology is well suited for fast moving video such as sports and action movies to reduce motion blur, and also helps with movies by reducing an effect called "judder". However, many people don't like this technology because it can make the video have what is called the "Soap Opera Effect".

Features common to all LED models

LED Edge-lighting - this technology differs from, and should not be confused with, regular LCD or even LED backlighting. With edge-lighting the LEDs surround the TV panel and light up the display that way, which has benefits and drawbacks compared with traditional backlights. Compared to previous LED backlighting technologies, the LED edge-lights have a significant disadvantage that they're incapable of "local dimming" which results in a lower contrast ratio.

Digital Media Support - these TVs can stream digital media from the network, or from a USB device attached directly to the set. For 2008 all the TVs can handle audio, video and photos while last year video support was limited to only the flagship lines. Furthermore, the video format support is increased in 2009 to add popular formats such as MKV, and WMV9. This means that most video found on the Internet will work.

Super-slim Design - one of the major benefits to the LED edge-lighting technology is that the televisions can be made extremely thin. Each set measures around 1.1" thick which is one of the thinnest available designs released in 2009.

Models

The naming convention for the Samsung Luxia 7000 Series: Samsung Luxia UNxxB7000 where the "xx" is replaced by the television's size.
