The Samsung LN-T4681F is a 1080p LCD based television with a native resolution of 1080p and comes in at highest end of Samsung's 2007 lineup of consumer LCD tvs. The biggest distinguishing feature this set has compared to not only Samsung's other offerings, but also almost all LCDs released so far, is the use of LED backlighting. With a technology Samsung dubs "LED SmartLight" the mechanism used to lighten up the screen is a new technology that gives Samsung more flexible options to produce a better picture. Despite being the flagship model in the line-up, the 81F series lacks a few features that the lower priced 71F series contains, most notably the 120Hz mode.

Spec list
- Full HD 1080p pixel resolution
- LED backlighting
- 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
- Inputs: 3 x HDMI, 2 x Component, 1 x VGA, 2 x Composite, 2 x S-Video, 2 x RF
Out of the spec list the thing the number that immediately stands out is the fantastically high contrast ratio. This number is derived from taking the darkest black available and comparing it to the brightest white the television can display. Due to the LED technology, the 81F series has what is known as "local dimming" this means that the lights themselves can turn off depending on the scene to achieve better black levels. In a completely dark scene the light output reaches near zero which is where the high number comes from. Real world performance comes in a more realistic level that is comparable to the top flat panels, both plasma and LCD. The other benefits of the LED technology include a longer lamp life, lower power consumption, and coolor operating temperature.
Similar to the 71F series, the 81F comes with a glossy screen that has the added effect of increasing perceived color depth while introducing glare and reflection issues when the lighting isn't properly set.
