Samsung R1

$150.00 Released January, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:FM radio. Large touchscreen display - no physical controls. Voice recorder.

The Cons:Uses a proprietary connection cable. Samsung's TouchWiz is still not up to par compared to competitors' interfaces, pretty laggy, nonsense widgets. Interface looks similar to the iPod Touch, yet can't be used in portrait and has a fixed number of screens.

The Samsung R1 is a micro portable media player (PMP) released in late 2009 as a precursor to its weaker sibling, the R0. The R1 adds along nearly everything missing from its late-coming peer: a touchscreen display, audio recording, games, Bluetooth wireless technology, and a TV-Out port.

Plus, it includes a Beat DJ feature that allows users to add either their own voice or space-themed sound effects to a song. It still lacks video recording, but like its counterpart, the R1 supports a wide-range of video formats, including DivX and MPEG4. Additional features include FM radio, SD/MMC memory expansion, and a text viewer.
