Samsung SyncMaster 2443BW

The 2443BW is a high-end model in Samsung's SyncMaster line of computer monitors, more specifically part of the 'Giant Series'. The 24" LCD display features a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1200 for increased workspace or watching HD video, with a standard 300cd/m2 brightness, 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and 5ms response time. The monitor aims to integrate with a variety of work environments thanks to a HAS stand which permits height adjustment and pivot functionality in addition to swivel and tilt. The DVI interface supports HDCP, which prevents copying of protected digital media. Among other features are display presets, including Internet, Game, and Movie modes. A standby mode which reduces power consumption to under 1 W is also included.

I have mixed reviews about this monitor.

I purchased in January 2009. The first one had 2 dead pixels, which isn't a huge deal but they were almost in the middle of the screen, plus I had zero dead pixel coverage.

Shipped it back and the 2nd one I received had 2 dead pixels again. Sent it back and the 3rd one had zero dead pixels (success).

This monitor was great no complaints after I received a zero dead pixel one until about 3 weeks ago it developed a vertical blue line. I guess this is a known problem with larger LCD's (monitors & TV's). Luckily I had express coverage through NCIX so they pay for shipping and warranty issues (for 1st yr). That said I believe they just ship it off to Samsung, they said it would take 2-6 weeks.

Given the size of popular LCD monitors now reaching 22"-30" I'm not sure if dead pixels is a common problem or just one I ran into with a certain batch of these Samsung's.

I've always been a big fan of Samsung monitors and this is the first problem I've ever had with a Samsung LCD. It also seems this model might have been discontinued or at least the particular model# I have.

I have a Samsung 2443BWT at home, a 2443BW at work, and a Samsung 245t here at home. The 2443BWT is a fairly good unit, though I am somewhat disappointed in the vertical view angle issues. No artist would find this acceptable. My 245t, which costs significantly more, has much better color, contrast, and does not have significant viewing angle issues. I have not had any dead pixels or technical problems with my 2443. Because the view angle issue is a technology problem, I don't think that other vendors screens at this price range will be much better. Other aspects of the screen, including contrast, brightness, color, sharpness, and configuration control are all very good.
