The Sennheiser HD 485 are open, circum-aural stereo headphones that come with a headphone holder that can be fastened to a table or shelf. The cable is not only detachable, it is also single-sided, meaning it only attaches to one side of the headphones. Open circum-aural design means the headphones completely surround the ear, yet let sound escape giving a more open natural sound. High quality ear pads and headband are offered for comfortable extended usage and the sound quality in this price-range is superior. Lightweight high-current, aluminum voice coils and diaphragm design bring high efficiency and detailed sound. These are best suited for quiet listening environments like at home due to the open design which some people prefer due to the 'airy' nature of the sound, well suited for classical/ and or live ensemble music. The step down from these in the Sennheiser Hi-Fi series are the HD 465s, which offer smaller Frequency Response and greater Total Harmonic Distortion(THD). This means these headphones(485) have deeper bass, higher highs, and less distortion of the audio signal.
