Seychelle 28oz Flip Top Filter Bottle

$32.00 Released January, 2011

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Very convenient and portable product for water filtration. According to Seychelle, filters fluoride unlike many filter systems. Surprisingly reasonable price.

The Cons:Advanced filter may leave iodine taste in water, not recommended for people with thyroid issues. Advanced filter is restrictive by design; may tire hands from squeezing if drinking a large portion of water at one time. Flip-top style lid needs cleaning often, does not protect itself from environmental dirt, etc.

This plastic (LDPE) water bottle contains a replaceable/removable water filter. Fill with water (not saltwater) and squeeze to drink.  Available compatible filters include "regular" (?), "standard", "advanced", and "radiological".

Regular: for municipal water, designed as a bottled water replacement.  Filters chlorine, chemicals (VOCs), heavy metals, radon 222, and fluoride.

Standard: for any in- or outdoor use (non-turbid, non-stagnant water). Filters aesthetics (such as chlorine, sediment, dirt), biologicals (such as giardia, cryptosporidium, e-coli bacteria), chemicals (VOCs such as DDT, MTBE, benzene, chloroforms/THMs), dissolved solids (heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, mercury, copper, zinc, aluminum, chromium 6), and fluoride.

Advanced: same media as standard filter, plus iodinated resin. Filters as standard filter, plus bacteria and virus.

Radiological: same media as standard filter (?), plus filters radiological contaminants (such as gross beta, radon 222, alpha radium 226, plutonium, uranium, cesium 137 and radioactive iodine 131.

Seychelle claims that the filters reduce fluoride (at least regular through advanced), but the posted lab tests do not mention fluoride.

It seems strange that (at least in the case of the advanced filter) there is no brand name on the included filter.

owenh: #seychelle_28oz_flip_top_filter_bottle It would be great if someone were able to get a before/after water test. Due to the iodine smell/taste being at times quite strong, I am interested in trying the standard filter rather than the advanced. Probably the standard filter is less restrictive: it is available for the stainless steel bottle (not squeezable) but the advanced is not. May 31, 13
