The Pros:Huge 10x zoom focal range - 50 to 500mm. Very heavy and large - difficult to carry around, requires a solid, heavy tripod. Includes optical image stabilization - extremely important at the long end.
The Cons:Not officially an EX series lens (highest Sigma line). Massive 95mm front element. Poor edge detail at the long end of the zoom range.
The Sigma 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM is a 10x telephoto zoom lens designed for full frame digital SLR cameras. This can also work with smaller cameras that have APS-c sized sensors, which changes the effective focal length depending on the camera build.

Optical stabilization is used to enable handheld shooting, and a Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM) is used to keep noise from the lens as low as possible. Light-gathering is handled by 4 Special Low Dispersion glass elements, which provide optimum color correction and sharpness from one end of the zoom range to another. Light is further focused by 22 lens elements in 6 groups, which work with the light to prevent distortion. The entire lens is 1970 grams.
