Announced in 2006, the Sigma DP1 is a digital point and shoot sized camera with advanced DSLR specifications and functionality that has only recently begun shipping. Aimed at professionals, the DP1 utilizes a Foveon sensor that is used in only a few cameras in the world. Each individual pixel contains more information than on a regular camera, breaking up each colour rather than storing them as a single piece of data. Similarly low level post-processing effects such as anti-aliasing on the majority of systems make this 4.5MP sensor comparable to advanced 8-10MP models. Able to store photos in RAW format, the Sigma DP1 is able to maintaign and deliver the high level of quality produced by its internal componentry.
