The SimpleTech [re]drive is a USB 2.0 external hard drive with a chassis made from Eco-friendly materials like recyclable aluminum and real bamboo. The is no internal cooling fan since the aluminum and bamboo offer a sufficient heat sink surface and an Energy Star AC adapter is included for efficient power usage. The USB interface is Turbo 2.0 as well which is said to be up to 25% faster than normal USB 2.0. Fabric Local Backup software comes preloaded on the drive which allows the scheduling of user-definable backup tasks such as backing up specific file types from specific locations on certain days of the week or month. The program also offers multimedia features like copying and burning CD's. A free 2GB online account is included with the drive which can be accessed via Fabrik Ultimate Backup software which functions in much the same way as Local Backup, only instead of automatically backing up files to the [re]drive it sends them to a safe online server.

The option to bump up to unlimited online storage is available for about five dollars a month. Macintosh users may use the included software but the drive itself must be formatted with Apple Disk Utility before it may be recognized by Time Machine. A free 1GB Joggle account is also included which lets you store your photo, music and video files in one location.
