The Sony BDP-S500 is a basic profile (1.0) Blu-Ray player capable of upscaling DVDs to 1080p via HMDI. It can display images at both 60p and 24p, and will play back video encoded in MPEG-2/MPEG-4-AVC and VC-1 codecs. The player is capable of 7.1 HDMI and 5.1 analog audio output, as well as uncompressed PCM sound, plus Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD via HDMI. The player also features "Bravia Theatre Sync" to synchronise with other Sony Bravia-series equipment controllable from a single remote.
