Sony BDV-E570

$399.99 Released April, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Uses Sony's aesthetically pleasing and easy to use XMB menu interface. Optional upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1 channel surround sound. IPhone/iPod touch remote control app included.

The Cons:Issues with updating built-in software over Wi-Fi. Passive subwoofer doesn't provide a great deal of bass response. Not as versatile as a full receiver / Blu-ray player combo.

The Sony BDV-E570 is a home theater system, complete with 5.1 speakers and a Blu-Ray player, set for release in the Spring of 2010. The system uses wireless speakers that are placed in specific areas around the room to create a surround-sound effect related to the video being watched.

The system is also prepared to accommodate two additional speakers to upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1 sound; extra speakers are sold seperately. The system's Blu-Ray player has far more functionality than a standard player and does more than just display discs at full High Definition resolutions. The player can connect the entire home theater to the internet via a wireless adapter to access a wide variety of media online such as video, pictures, and music. Standard definition video from discs and online sources is also upscaled by the player to close to HD quality, so even lower resolutions look close to 1080p.

kenny: #sony_bdv_e570 BDV-E570 is hard to believe that sony built such an outdated unit, after I purchased a expensive Sony KDL 52xbr9 TV with 240 refresh rate and 4 HDMI ports and after purchasing the upgraded above player get it home it has only one HDMI port and you are instructed to use an analog or coaxile cable. So much for better technolgy. Very disapointing, after purchasing expensive sony tvs and components beware Dec 1, 10
