Sony KDL-46XBR4

The KDL-46XBR4 is a 46" LCD based television with a 1080p native resolution. The XBR4 line is part of the 2007 lineup of Sony's LCD based HDTVs, and is successor to the XBR2 series. Within Sony's lineup the XBR4's are at the highest end, above the W3000 series. For their highest-end line Sony retains all the features of the W3000s, including: 1080p native resolution, 10-bit processing and display, 24p support, and xvColor support. On top of these standards, Sony adds even more premium features to justify the upgrade in price. Notable among these new features are the 120Hz mode, the Bravia Pro Engine, and a special attention to the set's casing with the floating glass design and removeable bezels.

Feature list

  • 46" LCD panel at 1080p native resolution
  • 120Hz mode
  • BRAVIA Pro Engine
  • XMB interface
  • Picture-in-Picture with freeze frame
  • Inputs: 3 x HDMI, 3 x Component, 1 x VGA, 2 x Composite, 1 x S-Video, 1 x RF

While all of Sony's 2007 HDTVs perform various image processing duties such as upconverting, the XBR line are the only sets using the BRAVIA Pro Engine. The Pro Engine features enhancements and more advanced processing capabilities compared to the other sets in the Sony line. For connecting computers the VGA connection, or HDMI connection can accept a PC signal up to the set's native resolution of 1920x1080. The 120Hz mode is used to reduce blurring and other artifacts that can pop up when viewing content with a lot of fast motion, and also viewing high-def content that runs at 24 frames.

Almost identical to the XBR4 line, the XBR5 line also includes a removable bezel, and a RS-232 home automation port.
