Marketed towards consumers as part of the Fontopia lineup, the Sony MDR-EX81LP is a lower priced dynamically driven canalphone. At $49.99, the MDR-EX81LP is driven by a 9mm driver. While not as large as its two larger brothers (13.5, 16mm), this driver is still large enough to provide ample bass where single armature based models may struggle. Providing isolation for use on-the-go, the MDR-EX81LP is a great choice for those interested in preserving their hearing while enjoying above-average sound quality. Sony's poor warranty may be an issue, but at only 50 dollars, such a loss may not be as hard to bear as the $299 MDR-EX700LP.
