Sony MDR-Z1000

$599.99 Released September, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Great noise cancellation, blocks out surrounding audio effectively. Fairly neutral audio, doesn't distort anything. Deep and tight bass that doesn't get boomy.

The Cons:Soundstage is fairly small, makes everything sound like it's inside your head. Mids tend to get a little overwhelmed, although not extremely so.

The Sony MDR-Z1000 is a high-end set of sound-monitoring headphones, the flagship offering of this product line. Designed with musicians and audio professionals in mind, this model is a step up from the lower cost MDR-V900HD model in that it has 4,000 millwatts of power handling capacity (as opposed to 3,000), and a magnesium alloy housing to prevent unnecessary vibration, for smooth bass response and a clear mid-high range.

The 360 kJ/m3 neodymium magnets help to make the bass and mid-range come out. These headphones are made to offer a faithful sound reproduction, and the 50mm driver unit delivers the original sound frequencies over the entire dynamic range. The diaphragm of these headphones utilizes Liquid Crystal Polymer Film, which contributes to an accurate sound.
