Sony STR-DH810
$400.00
Released March, 2010
The Pros:Many inputs for almost every conceivable audio/video type, clearly labelled. Automatic setup via mic accurate enough the first time to satisfy audiophiles. DVD upscaling is crisp and clear, no distortions noticeable and interpolating is gracefully handled.
The Cons:No on-screen setup menu, all done through a small remote menu. Surround sound settings are cryptically labelled, hard to work out which does what. Noticeable flicer when upscaling composite to 1080p. Not a problem when upscaled to 1080i.
The Sony STR-DH810 is one of four A/V receivers (DH510, DH710, DH810, DH1010) released in 2010. It builds from the STR-DH710 by incorporating an additional HDMI connection, a universal remote, 5W of more power per channel and more importantly, 1080p upconversion of analog video signals.
