Sony VAIO UX390

The UX390 is Sony's entry into the second generation of ultra-mobile PCs. First generation devices were met with general apathy, but companies like Sony are set on trying to make this niche PC category work. A 32GB flash-based hard drive is the biggest addition to the UX390. With a flash-based hard drive there's no moving parts in the entire device which extends battery life (from 2h in the UX50 to 3.5h) and keeps the machine running quiet and cool.

Details

Despite the small size, the UX390 should be able to run any application you throw at it. On the software side it comes installed with Vista Business, as well as Sony's in-house programs. Hardware wise there's a 1.3GHz Intel Core Solo and 1GB of RAM.

Behind the 4.5" touchscreen LCD, with a resolution of 1024x600, is a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. Behind the screen there's a bevy of ports including USB 2.0, headphone and microphone jacks, alongside Bluetooth and EV-DO connectivity.

I wish I was important enough to own a device such as this.

Ha! I know what you're saying. I'm embarrassed to admit I don't even own a cell phone.

A-ha, but therein lies the rub. If you own one then people will think you're important. The secret is to go into busy places, then pull out your gadget and look really stressed while you tap away furiously on the keyboard.
