Windows Vista Driver Support

Up until very recently, there has been no working drivers available for this device to be recognized and work in Windows Vista. This caused much difficulty for users for many months. Tascam had reported that they were working on drivers, but failed to deliver working drivers on several occasions.

Update Sept. 06, 2007:  Version 1.10 of the drivers now supports Windows Vista. Click here to go to the resources page for download.

According to cbeards Tascam is working on the drivers and they should be available in May.
3.  avatar Erik  May 18, 2007 12:35pm

I just called tascam support (323-727-7617) and after almost 25 mins of holding, I talked to a guy that said they are still developing the Vista drivers and they should be available in the next few weeks on the web site. Today is May 18th, so that would put an ETA around the middle of June I'm guessing.

Very frustrating.....having the audiocard that you need, but the only thing you can do is looking at it...:-( Just bought a laptop with Vista and a Tascam US-122L but the drivers don't give a damn... Searching on the internet for appropriate drivers didn't give any result! I hope the drivers really come soon for Vista!
5.  avatar Erik  May 20, 2007 11:16am

Apparently, there is a hack solution you can do to get Vista to recognize the Tascam:
"Getting US-122 to work with VISTA (32-bit only)
Before plugging in the US-122?
Download driver install.exe to desktop
Right click/Properties/Compatibility.
Check box and select Windows XP SP2. Apply. OK.
Right click again.
Run as administrator, install anyway.
When installed, plug in the US-122.
Vista will install 3 drivers.
Don't forget to go to US-122 in control panel and set to lowest latency."
Thanks Mike fro the solution.

I had a little hope..... But following this explanation, didn't bring me any further, anyway thanks! I downloaded the latest driver, and followed above instructions.... Same thing, after plug in the US-122L got some red flashing warnings and installing driver failed..... :-( I work with Vista 32-bit, so this can't be the reason.
7.  avatar joachime  May 28, 2007 3:10pm

I followed Eriks instructions and the installation went on flawless with my US-122! On the other hand I can't find a headphone plug with the right dimensions at home so I have to wait til I get back to the studio to try it out. Cheers!
8.  avatar Wolf66  Jun 01, 2007 3:04pm

I'm still waiting the Vista drivers..... When I tried this instruction, I have about 3 kind of red pop ups during instalation of the drivers, I think a warning of Vista that the drivers are not compatible (I haven't the time to read the pop ups), after that I got the message "installing drivers failed"..... I'm wondering what's going wrong, ....security settings of Vista?....maybe somebody have advice?
9.  avatar dj2quick  Jun 05, 2007 3:56am

wolf66, whats going wrong is that it just doesnt work. there are no vista drivers. the same thing happens to me. seems like erik was bs'ing, unfortunately. : /
10.  avatar Wolf66  Jun 06, 2007 4:24am

Happy to know I'm not the only one.....unhappy to know it still doesn't work. Anyway, I decided to wait until the Vista drivers arrive. Thanks dj2quick for your confirmation :-)........hoping that Tascam doesn't let us wait too long!

I am using Vista 32 bit premium home edition, with the US 144. I had similar problems as listed in this forum, after reading the instructions on Eriks post, I decided to try it out myself. And it worked. One thing I noticed about the Tascam products is it needs to be directly plugged into the computer usb ports. Meaning no splicers or 7 in 1 USB hubs for it. Another thing I noticed is that you need to check the "disable desktop composition" and "run as admin" to get it to work.....
12.  avatar Scorpius  Jun 08, 2007 7:56am

I tried Erik's suggestion, but it still didn't work. I'll try again later today. I assume you are using the 1.03 software update?
13.  avatar Scorpius  Jul 01, 2007 7:29am

Does anyone know when they finally release that f*cking update, I've been waiting for so long now...
14.  avatar Erik  Jul 01, 2007 11:35am

I don't know what's wrong with Tascam. I actually called them almost 2 months ago and they said they would be posting drivers "soon".
15.  avatar Wolf66  Jul 15, 2007 4:50am

Still my Tascam product US-122L have only one funtion......decoration. All I can do is looking at it, imagening how it would be when it works on Vista. Maybe someday, they'll say the driver never come, ......I decided not to return it to the shop because drivers for vista were promised end of may, ......now we are half july! Musicians need to have a lot of patience!
16.  avatar Wolf66  Jul 15, 2007 4:54am

Oh, and I had a good answer from Tascam for the software included with the US 122-L, it's also not compatible with Vista, and even....don't try it with XP Media Center! My dekstop computer crashed like hell......but they send me a solution, they advised to use Windows XP professional or home, nice solution! They know the price of a new operating system?
17.  avatar drummer342  Jul 18, 2007 3:10pm

wtf, how do they release a recording studio without setting its capability to a huge operating system (vista), bad technological research on their part
18.  avatar musiqchild  Jul 23, 2007 9:27pm

Hi Guys, I am Just new to this.. but I am not new to the similar experiences you guys are having... I recently upgraded my OS to vista business... but ever since I upgraded I found most applications I can no longer put back into my laptop.... the tascam its been sitting my bloody closet for how long... and still no updates for the drivers....
19.  avatar kapinol  Aug 02, 2007 11:32pm

20.  avatar musiqchild  Aug 03, 2007 5:15pm

22.  avatar Wolf66  Aug 19, 2007 5:01am

Hi Drummer342.......as I expected to have working drivers for Vista in may, I'm very curious to know the working solution you have....please can you post it?
23.  avatar kewlkeed  Aug 19, 2007 11:01am

Amazing sound quality and functionality... To all those who want to run this thing on VISTA... This is a professional piece of equipment, right now VISTA isn't. Not a chance in H*** I'd run a show or any production environment with Vista.
24.  avatar pierznj  Aug 22, 2007 9:30pm

kewlkeed, sure it's going to take a while for the world to catch up with Vista, but Tascam have had FOREVER to fix this. Obviously it's not like landing a man on the moon to make a functional driver for Vista, since some people have got the thing working as is. I for one will NEVER go near Tascam again. As for the US144 being a professional piece of equipment, that in itself is debatable. Installation can be nightmare under XP even. Every time I plug the damn thing in under XP I have to reinstall drivers. It's nuts. And if it was truly for pros, Tascam would care enough about their customers to provide decent support.
25.  avatar walsterus  Aug 26, 2007 2:35pm

I have just upgraded my lap top to a PC as my lap top was shite for recording audio.

I have a Tascam 144 and have just realised that It don't work with Windows Vista.

I have tried installing it in XP mode but it did not work.

Does anyone acutally know where this install.exe. file is??? I may be one of the lucky ones who gets that hack to work.

Does anyone have a Tascam 144 working with Windows Vista? I'm thinking about installing windows XP instead to get my studio to work!!!

Cheers,
Paul
26.  avatar drummer342  Aug 30, 2007 5:02pm

27.  avatar vanpet  Aug 30, 2007 6:09pm

first install did'nt work :)
29.  avatar vanpet  Aug 30, 2007 7:35pm

I tried to install it manually, doesn't work...

With the installer i get a 0x0006 error.

Manually, the driver are okay for the Device Manager, but my software doesn't recognize it...

If someone can install it, say it!
30.  avatar walsterus  Aug 31, 2007 1:58am

31.  avatar walsterus  Aug 31, 2007 1:59am

gary.maguire@tascam.co.uk - e-mail this guy he's very helpful.
32.  avatar vanpet  Aug 31, 2007 11:33am

walsterus > you got it to work? i tried several times, always 0x0006 error. i don't know what it means... it's very frustrating. i mailed the guy, no answer yet.
33.  avatar vanpet  Aug 31, 2007 1:31pm

tascam's answer: 0x0006 means that i tried to install on a 64 bits version of Vista.

my answer: well, that's bullshit, my system is 32 bits for sure!
34.  avatar walsterus  Aug 31, 2007 1:58pm

No mate same error - as soon as somebody gets the new driver to work can they post on here how they did it and i will do the same, Paul
35.  avatar walsterus  Aug 31, 2007 1:59pm

Great suggestion walsterus! I've started the product report for the Behringer UCA202 U-Control interface. *NO DRIVERS REQUIRED* I reccomend pairing it with the Behringer TUBE ULTRAGAIN MIC200 pre-amp. These units cost around $30 and $60 respectively.
38.  avatar vanpet  Sep 05, 2007 12:41pm

I've great news: drivers now work (i've beta tested one) and they will put it on the website soon.
39.  avatar walsterus  Sep 06, 2007 2:20am

great! where did you get the beta driver from? Paul

I just wanted to comment on Tascam's support, or rather lack thereof. When I purchased the US-428 USB control surface/audio interface a few years back, I had a bunch of trouble installing it to my Win98SE machine (yes, it was that long ago). The only option that Tascam provided me for "support" was user forums. Um...WHAT? No actual Customer Service Reps or Technical Support line, or even e-mail??? Not cool.

I ran into alot of people in the forum who believed they knew how to fix my issue, but who would not actually read my posts thoroughly in order that the assistance they provided was actually helpful, and the forum was poorly moderated; several people used profanity and even racial slurs in their responses!

In response to this, I have never purchased another product from Tascam again. I paid almost $500 for the unit new and could only use it with my Mac and not my WinTel machine. I had to wait till Win2KPro to actually be able to use it properly on my Wintel Box, and that was about a year later!!!

My advice to anyone who purchases Tascam products is that if you plan on getting what may be a fine product, be prepared to never EVER get help from Tascam after you drop the cash and walk through the doors, or receive it at your door. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT because you may be ridding yourself of it quickly.
