Inspired by a Japanese folk tale, The Crane Wife is the Decemberist's first release after signing with Capitol records. Released in October 2006, almost half of this 60 minute album is dedicated to two songs (in several parts): "The Island", and "The Crane Wife". Considered to be a slight departure from the typical Decemberist sound, the album may be their most ambitious so far.

While I don't think that the Decemberists are for everyone, I think this album may be their most accessible. Give it time.
