Tomato Firmware is a replacement firmware for the Linksys WRT54G and Buffalo WHR-G54 series of wireless routers based on a Linux core. The firmware is developed by Jonathan Zarate and is based off othe GPL sourcecode released by Linksys and includes proprietary modules developed by Broadcom. It features a rich graphical user interface that relies heavily on AJAX and a realtime SVG-based graphical bandwidth monitor. The firmware exposes access to many hardware features and tweaks including the ability to increase the transmit power of the wireless antenna.

- Rock-solid operation with minimal reboots
- Can run router in multiple wireless modes: access point (AP), wireless client station (STA), wireless ethernet bridge (WET), wireless distribution system (WDS), simultaneous AP + WDS
- Supports event-based scripting, including overwriting SES button action
- Turns on the SpeedBoost (aka Afterburner) functionality disabled by Linksys in later models
- Can schedule reboots and scripts to run periodically
