Torpedo Projector

The Torpedo Projector is a kids projector that is a cheap alternative for parents who want a big screen viewing option for their kids, but don't want to spend a lot of money. The projector does not compete with high-end projectors in anyway, but rather sits in a new class of low-end and low-priced options. The price is low for one main reason: low resolution (only 960 x 240 pixels). However, it can project up to 72" diagonally, making for a fun viewing experience with DVDs or video games.

dvds and videogames? I don't think much of anything other then stuff specially made for the resolution would be watchable at 960x240 - thats a 4:1 aspect ratio - maybe it does something funny to make it a more reasonable size?

I would guess that it has a native resolution of 960 x 240 and that it stretches the pixels vertically to make a 4:3 picture. The pixels themselves would not be square (actually 1:3). If you think about it, this only has 240 horizontal lines of resolution; compare that to a DVD with 480 lines. Apparently, the picture looks very pixelated after all is said and done. You get what you pay for.

Exactly, and at $75 it might be worth it for a kid's room. I'm sure kids would love to play video games on a HUGE screen and probably be willing to sacrifice the picture quality...as long as they're not young videophiles in training.

for playing classics like NES and sega genesis it works perfect..but a brighter picture would be nice, has anyone tried putting in a higher wattage bulb?

I read on some site that they got 50w bulb from walmart and it worked a lot better as far as brightness, only problem would be any warranty issues would be void if you used the brighter bulb. If you are not worried about warranty then try that. Also I'm sure there is a full spectrum bulb you could get I think it is any bulb that is rated closest to true white can't really remeber how the rating deal works on those. Any way if you try the brighter bulb it will put out more heat so be careful what is around the projector and the projector itself.
