Toshiba REGZA SV670 Series

The REGZA SV670 Series is Toshiba's top of the line set of LCD HDTVs introduced in the first half of 2009 and are the first line of HDTVs that utilize an LED backlight for improved power efficiency, and picture quality. What Toshiba calls "FocaLight" is a full LED backlight solution that uses a grid of lights to power this display. This technology allows for local dimming for improved static contrast ratios and is better than competitive edge-LED lighting, but not quite as sophisticated as Sony's tricolor LED solution. From a features perspective the SV670s are very similar to the ZV650 line with the same ClearFrame 240Hz technology, and USB digital media reading.

ZV650 and SV670 Features

Dolby Volume control - attempts to automatically detect drastic changes in the audio sound levels and adjusts them accordingly to present a more consistent listening experience.

ClearFrame 240Hz - Toshiba's marketing name for regular 120Hz processing technology which allows the television to insert one frame between the regular video frame in an effort to reduce video artifacts such as judder and motion blur. The downside to this algorithmic approach is that the artificial frames can introduce their own video artifacts, and often times creates what is known as the "soap opera effect". The 240Hz figure means that the TV can introduce 3 extra frames between each real frame, giving the TV more flexibility in reducing visual artifacts.

Common to all 2009 REGZAs

AutoView - analyses the incoming video signal and automatically adjusts the resulting picture settings to optimize the image quality. For example, dark scenes may have the backlight reduced to allow for more shadow detail and deeper black levels.

Resolution+ - this processing technology from Toshiba attempts to upscale and lower resolution video, such as from the TV or DVDs, to the television's native 1080p resolution. Toshiba has put particular attention and effort into their upscaling technology and claims it is superior to most competitive offerings.
