Toshiba SD-4000

The SD-4000 is an entry level standard definition (SD) DVD player with a lot of unadvertised features. Plays most low as well as high def video formats; AVI (DivX & XviD), MPG1,2,4 (VCD, SVCD, DVD) as well as MP3 and WMA audio files with bitrates up to 320. While still having all the normal DVD features: Zoom, Audio selections, Caption selections. The dollar per value rating makes this a good investment for those who are waiting on the HD scene to stabilize.

I needed a replacement DVD player and was tired of the $20 dollar specials that died in no time at all, plus I wanted something that would work with DivX. Since I'm a hold out on High-Def this player was fine for me. The first test I did on this thing was disk formats, and then media formats and instead of listing what it would play, it is easier to state what it will NOT play: WMV, ASF, QT(some), RM.

If you need an upconversion unit, try the SD-5000 or higher; but if you are a holdout like me this unit will not make you regret a dime of its cost.

*Note: I did not experience any sync issues but some seem to have them. I do not know if this is bad encoding, bad media, or a combo of the two; this thing works fine here. You would think a DVD with 22 episodes (hours) on it would loose some sync but it plays good from start to end.
