The Trek 2.1 is an entry-level professional road bike made with a hydroformed Alpha Black Aluminum frame and Shimano 105 components. The fork, wheels, tires and components are made by Bontrager with the fork being SpeedTrap compatible which means you can insert a sensor for wirelessly transmitting speed, distance and cadence information to a GPS receiver or ANT+ enabled device. Stepping up from the 1 series Alpha White Aluminum and just below the premium Alpha Red frames is the Alpha Black which is in the middle of the price/weight scale, where red is the lightest/most expensive and white is the heaviest/cheapest. As you go up in the series, the same trend happens where the more expensive the bike and it's components the lighter they become, as is the case with the Trek 2.3 which has the same frame and geometry but lighter components. The 2 series is a good way to get the feel of the more expensive Madone series and is cheaper as well, albeit without the ultra-lightweight carbon frame.
