The Tulip chair was designed by Finnish-American designer Eero Saarinen in 1956. The design was originally for the Knoll company who wanted a chair with smooth lines and a modern feel. At the time, the tulip chair was renowned for its 'space-age' curves and use of materials. The base is fiberglass with an upholstered seat.

- Design is wonderful, Knoll quality is terrible. All my chairs have rusted after only three years where the base connects with the seat.
