The MSi R5450-MD512H is a low cost video card for people who need to take some load off of their main CPU for graphic processing. While it is compatible with most graphic standards, a low speed processor and memory will make it suitable for casual games. Those building a home theater can take advantage of its HDCP support, however, to stream video to a variety of outputs.

The processor is a 650MHz ATI Radeon HD 5450 processor, which is supported by 512MB of DDR3 memory. The memory itself is clocked at 650MHz and uses a 64-bit interface to exchange data with the processor. The card uses a PCI-E 2.1 slot, and outputs in VGA, DVI-I, and HDMI. While it can manage resolutions of up to 2560x1600, expect a major performance slow-down at this level of detail. Both DirectX 11 and OpenGL 3.2 are supported.

EVGA GeForce 9800 GT SuperClocked

The EVGA GeForce 9800 GT Superclocked video card is the same as the original 9800 GT, only overclocked. This means that the processor and memory are running faster than the original settings would have allowed them to. Otherwise, it is physically the exact same card. This means a slightly improved performance at the cost of more heat generation and power usage. The card comes with a large cooling fan. This is a physically larger card, so a full-sized tower is recommended to house it. It runs graphic programs and games well, but doesn't achieve high frames per second.

The GPU runs at 650MHz with 112 processing cores, and is supported by 512MB of memory running at 60.8GB/s. There are two DVI-I ports and a HDTV-7 output. The card is SLI capable, but with the fan in the way you'll need to double-check the dimensions of your motherboard to make sure it will fit.

Features

650MHz GPU with 112 processing cores

512MB of 256 bit GDDR3

Memory runs at 60.8 GB/s bandwidth

PCI-E 2.0

2 DVI-I and 1 HDTV-7 output

SLI Capable

240Hz refresh rate

2560x1600 resolution

It is nearly identical to the nVidia GeForce G105M, but features a 16 NVIDIA CUDA cores in the processor and runs at 1000Mhz. This means that double the number of processors are being employed, and more work can get done at a lower voltage. It works with up to 512MB of memory in a 64-bit interface at up to 11 GB/s, allowing for increased amounts of data moving to and from the main processor. Gaming is accommodated with full DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.1 support, and high definition video is fully supported using NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology. This processor is capable of using Hybrid SLI, which allows more than one GPU to be combined. When this is done both can be run simultaneously for up to an 80% performance increase, or one can be powered down for a longer battery life. This video card is Windows 7 certified.

Like the other members of the line it uses a native x16-lane PCI Express bus interface, but unlike the others the data is funneled through 8 vertex processors and 16 pixel shader pipelines, way more than the cheaper members of the line. The core clock speeds get up to 550MHz, supported by a high bandwidth GDDR3 RAM and a newly designed ring-bus memory controller. As standard for the line, the ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 integrates Avivo display functionality to sharpen the images and power high resolutions on external displays. The X1800 comes with an ATI Catalyst Mobility Control Center that allows the consumer to have detailed control over their system as well as offering automatic configuration to make everything run as smoothly as possible.
