Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 is an upcoming video game by Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios. It is a sequel to the 2008 game Gears of War 2, and is exclusive to the Xbox 360 platform. It features a brand-new "Beast Mode", new weapons, and a playable mech suit. The Beast Mode is a multiplayer mode that allows a player to play as one of the Locusts, fighting COG members. The game also brings in several new weapons to the series, including the Pendulum War Era Lancer (which has a normal bayonet as opposed to a chainsaw bayonet), and the One Shot, a recoilless rifle that can kill any enemy with one shot (as the name implies). At various intervals throughout the game, the player is given control of a mech suit, which uses machine guns and a rocket launcher for weapons. It also has two modes of play. In assault mode, it is controlled as a standard character, while in stationary mode, it can be used as cover for allies. When compared to the previous game in the series, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 has some advantages, including more multiplayer mode options (such as the new Beast Mode).

Heavenly Sword

Heavenly Sword is an epic action game in the same style as God of War that sees Nariko taking on hoards of enemies as she seeks revenge against a tyrannical king. Ninja Theory emphasize the fast and deep combat systems, alongside the Hollywood level presentation. Weta Digital, the same effects company that did King Kong and Lord of the Rings moveis, handled the motion capture and performance of the digital actors. Andy Serkis who acted as Gollum in the LoTR movies is responsible for creative directing and also performs as the King.

Gameplay

Heavenly Sword features a mix of traditional melee hack and slash combat, interactive cutscenes, and some ranged combat. Nariko will move from one area to the next sometimes through an interactive cut scene and find herself in an arena battling enemies that number from just a few to a few hundred. After all the enemies are defeated the next area is opened up.

Combat in Heavenly Sword is motivated by recent classics such as God of War and Ninja Gaiden. Compared to those two games the combat falls somewhere in between, requiring more thought and strategy than GOW's mash-friendliess, but not as deep as NG's. There are three different stances that Nariko can assume with the sword: light, balanced, and heavy. The light stance sees the sword transform into two chained weapons that send out fast attacks that deal less damage in a wider area. Balanced mode has Nariko controlling two swords that deal a medium amount of damage, with medium range. Heavy transforms the sword into one big sword that Nariko holds with two hands swinging in slow and powerful arcs. The default stance is the balanced form, with the light stance activated by holding the left shoulder button, and the heavy stance activated by holding the right shoulder button.

Each stance has its own set of combos and combo strings depending on the sequence of button presses. Further combo options are introduced by mixing between stances mid-combo. Unique among combat games, Heavenly Sword features no block button. Instead Nariko blocks automatically if no attack buttons are pressed. You can only block while in balanced or heavy stances. Right before an enemy attacks they will emit a trail of light which indicates what kind of attack they're going to perform, and thus what stance you need to be in for a successful block.

Another integral part of the combat system are counters. Right when the enemy's attack is about to land Nariko can initiate a counter which will deal major damage. Similar to blocking, the color of the enemy will determine which stance is required for a successful counter. While no jump button is found air combos are initiated by jerking the SIXAXIS after an enemy has been launched into the air.

Story

Both interactive and non-interactive cutscenes are used to relate the story, with little to no dialog being spoken during the action and combat sequences. The title of the game follows the main weapon that Nariko uses to seek revenge. The game starts with Nariko's death as she enters a kind of pergatory to come back and kill the people that destroyed her tribe. She weilds the Heavenly Sword a magical blade that kills whoever uses it. The evil king of the land wants the sword for himself which is why he attacks Nariko's tribe.

Reviews have been generally positive so far; Heavenly Sword currently has an 85.3% rating on Game Rankings.

Since then the game has changed developers and publishers, and has been redesigned from the ground up. The game takes place slightly after the end of Driv3r, and the protagonist, John Tanner goes into a coma after crashing while chasing his former comrade Charles Jericho through San Francisco. The game takes place in Tanner's coma dreamworld, which gives the player and developer more freedom than before, and allows there to be features such as "Shift," which is instant car switching while driving. Shift switches into a top-down mode, where the player picks a new car from other cars on the road. Shift then physically changes the location of the player into the new car, allowing it to be used as a travel and strategic mechanic. Because of this feature, none of the game is on-foot, and that function has been removed altogether. Also new to the franchise is the online multiplayer, which has several modes and supports up to eight people.

These can be used toward weapon upgrades, increasing area of effect, damage done, rate of fire, and a variety of unique effects for each weapon. Kicking and sliding are part of regular gameplay, and are often the most efficient way to dispatch enemies as well as navigate the environment. A leash is also used to tangle enemies and render a number of unique effects.

Played entirely in first person, Umbrella Chronicles is a shooter that is entirely on rails (think House of the Dead). Occasionaly you have the choice of veering off the beaten path, breaking down doors and finding alternate routes will ultimately be beneficial. Many of the objects in the game are breakable, concealing files, health, or ammunition. The files are the major draw of the game, giving fans of the series more back story and facts about their favorite games. All of the guns in the game are upgradable...for a cost. You must sacrifice a number of your stars (recieved after completing a mission) to upgrade the weapon. Some upgrades increase ammo capacity, while others increase damage, blast radius, or reload speed.

Mario Party 8

Mario Party 8, as its name suggests, is the eighth installment in the Mario Party series. These games typically involve one to four players choosing from a cast of classic Mario characters and battling each other through a series of competitive mini-games. Mario Party 8 follows this formula exactly, adding to the mix new game boards, characters, and new mini games that take advantage of the Wiimote.

There are six different modes to choose from, with the main mode being the Party Tent. This is the board game mode where one to four players choose from one of the six different boards and try to complete them. The boards are 3D interactive versions of regular board games with a beginning, ending, and spaces in between. Each player takes a turn rolling the dice and then moving ahead on the board. Different spaces have different results with many of the spaces triggering one of the game's 65 mini-games. Winners of the mini-games are awarded prizes and points which help determine the overall winner.

Each of the 65 mini-games has their own objective, and usually involve accomplishing a small task such as hitting a nail with a hammer, or filling a jar with sand. Criticisms have been levied against MP8 lamenting the fact that many of the games don't seem to take enough advantage of the unique control mechanisms of the Wii.

The other game modes are the Minigame Tent which lets player play any of the games they've already encountered in the main game. And the Extras Zone which is a collection of 8 mini games that are entirely separate from the rest of the game, and use your Miis instead of the regular Nintendo mascots.

The game was renowned for the use of cinematic cutscenes (arguably a first in the industry) and a full movie-like story. You play as Ryu Hyabusa, a ninja, as you make your way through six platforming levels referred to as "Acts" with bosses at the end of each level. Your main weapon is the Dragon Sword which you use to defeat enemies as they scroll into the screen. Ryu can also grasp and subsequently jump off ladders and walls. You can pick up a variety of sub-weapons such as a shurikens, fire wheels, and a "jump & slash" weapon. You have a "physical strength" meter which measures how many more hits you can sustain, whereas the "spiritual strength" meter limits your use of sub-weapons.

In it, players are able to capture monsters that inhabit the battlefield. These beasts differ from the creatures you'd normally encounter in battles, as they have special names and abilities unique to them. Once a monster has been scouted, it's added to a growing arsenal of creatures that can then be assembled into teams of three for use as support characters in battle. Outside of using these monster teams in combat, players can also use them in Dragon Quest VIII's "Monster Battle Road" tournament grounds. Other new additions to the series include full day and night cycles for towns, first-person conversations, and the ability to look around the 3D environments.

A sequel to “Lost Planet”, Lost Planet 2 picks up 10 years after the original story. The landscape of E.D.N. III has evolved dramatically as the ice has melted, giving way to jungles and tropical areas. The player takes control of a snow pirate squad, directing battles against the Akrid and trying to stop NEVEC (evil corporation). Some recurring gameplay elements from the original include extreme terrain, major boss battles, and the ability to pilot mechanized armor suits. Most notable about Lost Planet 2 is its addition of co-op gameplay in campaign mode, allowing 4 players to team up against enemies. Plus, Lost Planet 2 allows players to create and customize their own character, including head, body, back, legs, hair-style, gestures, and more.

Bullet-belching robot suits. Giant monster-lizards that literally pass you through their ass and crap you onto the battlefield. Adapted from a Chinese fantasy novel, Zu Online is a persistent world thematically inspired by China's heritage, in particular the traditions associated with wuxia. Developed by Onwind Digital, it will be offered in the West by IGG.

Zu is a mythical mountain range in Sichuan, China, where legends of immortals with amazing powers take up residence. In the past, a war broke out between the good immortals and the evil demons. It started when Blood Demon, the leader of the evil forces, led the demons on an assault on Zu. In the middle of the war, a relic known as Oracle Rock was created, and on its surface was the Heavenly Scripture that held the secret to stop the Blood Demon. The immortal clans hurried to their way to the Oracle Rock, but Blood Demon and his followers was already waiting in ambush. An intense battle ensue, and the Oracle Rock itself was smashed into many crystal-like shards and scattered all over the Zu world.[1]

The game starts 10 years after the battle at Oracle Rock, with the players entering Zu as one of the Five Clans of Zu to continue the battle against Blood Demon and the evil demons. The world of Zu is slowly showing effects of corruption by the evil...

The Five Clans: There are 5 character classes to choose from: Bead Fairy, Moon Maiden, Summoner, Sun Warrior, and Swordsman. Players can have up to five characters per account, and will also have access to over 250 skills between the five classes.

Faction System: Players are able to join one of the 3 factions: Tai, Wu and Xun. Each faction is hostile to each other, so players can fight with other players in the opposing factions.

Quest System: In Zu Online, the Quest System features quests with clear goal directions. Thus, whether players are new or experienced they can easily find suitable quests for their levels. However, there is a limit on how many quests one can receive at a time. Players can check their progress in the Quest Log.

Mansion System: Players can join Guilds and compete for mansions that are unoccupied. The winner has the right to develop the mansion, including building city vehicles, city gates, shops and a pet area. It is also possible to set the flying route into the mansion, setting gate guards, gate deity beasts and watch beasts of the mansion and collecting materials etc.

Pet System: Players are able to equip a pet when they have reached a certain level.[2] Feeding pets can increase their satiation degree and experience, while letting them join battles can increase their intimacy degrees and allow them to learn skills (Resilience, Regeneration, Rejuvenation, Resistance, Move Speed, Garrote, Critical) experience. The pets can be ridden by one or two players when fully grown up. The appearance of the pet may be changed through feeding.

The Ability to Fly: There are NPCs offering automated flight in every region. Each flight will have different costs depending on the distance and region level.[3]

Daily Events: Everyday there are special events that every player can join, limited only by each event's level requirements. It is scheduled all around the clock, with 3 possible times to join per day. These events have great rewards in the form of massive experience points and items.

A compliation of Blizzard's Starcraft games, including Starcraft, Starcraft:Brood War, and strategy guides for both the games by Prima Publishing.

Starcraft

The three races, Terran (humans), Protoss (technological aliens), and Zerg (biological aliens), are at war with each other. The player chooses one of the three races to fight with. Each race provides a vastly different play style than its other two counterparts. The Terrans have access to advanced combat technology, including tanks and nuclear missles. The Protoss have the advantage of powerful energy weapons and energy shields. The Zerg prefer to use teeth and claw to fight their battles. While the races may be very different, no race is better than the other. Starcraft has a campagin mode for each race, quick games for custom battles, and a multiplayer mode (BattleNet) that has numerous challenges to compete in.

Starcraft: Brood Wars

The expansion pack to Starcraft offers a wide vareity of new content. Each of the three races campagins are entirely new, expanding on the story in the first game. Each race gains new units as well. The Protoss now have Dark Templars and Dark Archons (previously seen in Starcraft, but could not be controlled). The Dark Archons cannot fight directly, but are able to take control of the minds of the enemies troops, turning them against their former masters. The Terrans now have the Medic, an infantry healing unit that augments the main fighting force. The Zerg get the Lurker, Gurdian, and Devourer. The lurker is an evolved form of a Hydralisk that cannot attack above ground, but when it burrows it shoots a trail of spikes across the ground at enemies. Gurdians and Devourers are evolved from Mutalisks. Gurdians specialize in air to ground combat while Devourers attack units in the air. In addition to the new units, there are also new technologies to research.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3

The game has the player take the role of a male high-school student who joins up with other members of SEES—the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad—to attack Shadows and other beings that emerge during the "Dark Hour", a time period between each day which only few humans are aware of. The player uses weapons and magical abilities gained by the use of "Personas" to defeat foes in a turn-based combat system. An iconic feature of the game is the method by which the members of SEES release their Personas: by firing an Evoker, a gun-like object, at their head, which does no damage but causes sufficient emotional stress to cause the Persona to appear. In addition to typical RPG elements, the game includes elements of dating simulation games as the player character progresses day by day through a school year, making friends and relationships that improve the strength of his Personas in battle.

The Main Character, a teenager who was orphaned as a young boy, returns to the city of his childhood. Shortly after transferring to Gekkoukan High School, he is attacked by Shadows—creatures that feed on the minds of their victims. The assault awakens his Persona, Orpheus, his only chance at defeating these creatures of the night. He soon discovers that he shares this special ability with other students at his new school; each is armed with an Evoker, a special handgun that they fire at their heads that does not harm them physically but causes emotional stress in order to summon forth their own Persona. The Main Character learns that he is unique among the other members, being able to use multiple Personas and that he is guided by the formation of Social Links to improve his power. From them he learns of the "Dark Hour," a hidden time that exists between one day and the next, swarming with Shadows. He joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), and with his new friends, confronts the threat of the Shadows by exploring Tartarus, a huge, chaotic tower that appears in the place of their school every Dark Hour.

After signing a contract in which he "accepts his fate of his own free will," the Main Character battles with the other members of SEES against the Greater Shadows, incarnations with traits and appearances similar to those of the first twelve Major Arcana of the Tarot. The group is told by Shuji Ikutsuki, the adult supervisor of the group, that defeating all the major Shadows will end the Dark Hour.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground

Tony Hawk is an iconic brand in both the video gaming and skateboarding worlds. Proving Grounds is the franchise's ninth installment, and direct sequel to Project 8. This year's version sees the Nail-The-Trick feature, introduced in P8, expanded to include Nail-The-Grab, and Nail-The-Manual that increase the flexibility in developing new kinds of tricks. The other new addition is the job system that lets you decide from three different types of skater, each with their own abilities and bonuses. 2007 is the first year that the Tony Hawk franchise has a serious competitor in the skateboarding genre with EA's release of Skate.

Proving Grounds continues the traditional career path found in other Tony Hawk titles with a few twists. You start the beginning of the game a lowly amateur skateboarder, accomplish various tasks and challenges and work your way up the ranks of skateboarding world. The twist comes into play by having three major career paths that you can work towards. Alongside the usual stat upgrades you receive for successfully completing challenges, the career path unlocks new abilities and story lines for you to progress towards. Each role doesn't just change the abilities you unlock, but also the appearance of your skater to reflect the appropriate lifestyle.

Hardcore - revolves around the kind of skater that does it for himself, and rides "underground" areas shooting videos. Going down this route unlocks the body check ability letting you hit bystanders without falling down yourself.

Rigger - the skater that sets up new places to skate and builds their own ramps and grind spots. Climbing, park building, and park modding are the abilities unlocked through this path

Career - takes part in competitions, tries to get on magazine covers, and lives the life of a professional skateboarder. Nail-the-Grab, and Nail-the-Manual are both unlocked in the career path.

Each path is not mutually exclusive to the other, meaning that you can go down multiple paths at the same time unlocking multiple abilities. No matter which route you decide on the story will take you from Philadelphia, to Baltimore, to Washington DC. The cities are inspired by their real world counterparts and contain various well known landmarks to help identify them, and provide more places to skate.

Alongside the main skateboarding areas, each player has a "lounge" which is an area that they can customize themselves. New pieces for customization include skate park items such as rails and ramps, or "pimp" items like plasma tvs. You can invite your online friends to your lounge to see the items you've unlocked, and skate the park that you've created.

Video Editor

New to the series is a full non-linear video editor that is built into the game. You can create a video up to two minutes in length from a combination of up to 20 different clips. Being non-linear you can layer on top a variety of effects and filters to customize the look of the video. The camera angles are completely user driven, and you can even record the path of the camera to simulate various effects like a chopper filming above, or a camera-man following your skater.

Unlike Skate, the replays are limited for playback inside of the game itself. You can share replays online with other people, but they must watch them inside of the game.

Colin McRae: DiRT

Colin McRae: Dirt is the first next-gen installment of the popular Colin McRae series of rally racing games. The game puts you in the seat of a variety of vehicles including traditional rally cars, trucks, and buggies. You take these vehicles and race against the clock or other drivers along rally courses which are filled with different types of terrain, most of them fitting for the game's title.

There are four main modes of play: career, where you take part in all the game's different race types with ever increasing difficulty; Championship mode, lets you play full length rally events; Rally World, gives you the option to replay any of the events encountered in career mode; and online Multiplayer. The multiplayer side of the game gets special mention since its different than many other online racing games. Instead of pitting you head to head against other racers on the same track, the multiplayer works by allowing up to 100 people to vote on a course and vehicle, and then all race simultaneously by themselves continually comparing times as the race progresses.

The game straddles the edge of arcade and simulation racer. Vehicles control in an unrealistic fashion with the cars turning about a central pivot point instead of their wheels, which makes for flashier drifting and driving. However, the game offers simulation aspects through its detailed damage model that allows you to dent and rip parts off of your car, and even take out the engine completely making you restart the race.

The PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game ship simultaneously on June 19th, 2007, with the Playstation 3 version releasing later.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin retails for $58.99.

Taking place in the same fictional universe as the original, the game does not follow in the footsteps of the original F.E.A.R. operative or his counterpart in Perseus Mandate; rather, the user takes control of an SFOD-D operative named Michael Becket, who is dispatched 30 minutes before the explosion that ended the original game.

From there you often work with your allies against the axis to fulfill mission objectives that are both set out at the beginning briefing and introduced dynamically as the level progresses.

Similar to other World War 2 games Airborne sees you taking part in various operations around the European theater of war, including the invasion of Normandy. Unlike the popular MoH:Allied Assault title, you don't take part in the actual Normandy invasion itself, instead you drop in a few hours earlier to clear the way for advancing soldiers. Regardless of the level's objectives the overall layout of each mission remains the same involving the drop, fighting with your allies, and completing objectives.

The gameplay mechanics are similar to the average first person shooter with a few new twists that EA adds. More accurate aiming is accomplished by looking down the "iron sights" which prevents you from moving, but allows you to lean left and right. A sprinting ability is included that lasts indefinitely, however you can't fire your gun while activating the sprint. Lastly, and in the biggest departure from other WW2 shooters, Airborne lets you upgrade your weapons. "Experience" is tied to each weapon, the more you use it, and the more kills you get the more experience is gained. At certain thresholds the gun gains a new level (up to 3) that adds a bonus, such as more ammo in a clip, or less recoil.

A multiplayer mode is available on all three versions of the game. There are three different game types, each revolving around two teams: Axis and Allies. In "Airborne Teammatch" the Allied team drops into the map similar to the single player game, and has to eliminate the Axis side. "Regular Teammatch" is the same thing except both sides start on the ground. The third mode is a territories mode similar to that found in games such as Battlefield 2. Six maps are included with the game, and online supports up to 12 players at a time.

Ratchet & Clank Deadlocked

Insomniac Games brings back one of its most beloved characters, Ratchet, in RATCHET: DEADLOCKED for the PS2. Although more of the focus is on combat instead of the traditional platform action, Deadlocked still plays similar to the previous RATCHET AND CLANK games. RATCHET: DEADLOCKED begins shortly after the end of RATCHET AND CLANK: Up your Arsenal. The three heroes, Ratchet, Clank, and mechanic Al, have just finished their latest mission when they are captured by galactic villain Gleeman Vox. Vox plans to use the heroes as part of his reality TV arena show, Dreadzone, where heroes are forced to fight each other to the end. The major difference in RATCHET: DEADLOCKED is that Clank is no longer on Ratchet's back. Instead, he will occasionally supply Ratchet with a necessary gadget. This takes out many of the platformer elements of the series, leaving Ratchet to mostly battle his way through the eleven different Dreadzone levels with the help of two combat bots. Gamers can find a number of different weapons and gadgets throughout the game, including the incredibly destructive Harbinger gun. The more Ratchet uses a particular weapon, the more powerful it will become. Several different vehicles are also available. In addition to the main storyline, players can also compete in a number of Dread challenges on each level, complete side tasks, collect skill points, and battle each other in a number of different multiplayer modes. RATCHET: DEADLOCKED has many extras to keep players battling against the evil Vox for hours.

Suikoden V

Suikoden V takes place in the Queendom of Falena, portraying the events of that region of the Suikoden world six years before the events in Suikoden and 144 years after the events in Suikoden IV (~IS 449). The Queendom of Falena is a relatively rich land sustained by the Feitas River, which connects its disparate parts and enables trade and communication .

It is ruled by Queen Arshtat and her husband Ferid, who have been a balancing and steady force since the demise of her somewhat rash mother. However, the tensions of the past have not been entirely settled. Arshtat's mother and aunt had been engaged in a covert struggle for power over the succession. Falena's government also has powerful nobles who maintain their own separate forces, loyal to them. Arshtat's hand in marriage was seen as key to gaining power in the future by the nobles; a civil war was narrowly averted when Ferid, a neutral outsider, won the Sacred Games and thus the right to marry Arshtat. At the beginning of Suikoden V, the time has come for Lymsleia's Sacred Games, a gladiatorial tournament in which the winner may ask for the future Queen's hand in marriage. (As a Queendom rather than a Kingdom, the first-born female is in line for the throne.) Aside from the many freelancers, suitors, and independent nobles who desire this prize, the two most powerful noble houses both bear a special interest in it; like with Arshtat's Sacred Games, Lymsleia's hand could prove a crucial advantage. The Godwins believe that Falena needs to be more centralized, powerful and perhaps expansionistic. The Barows seek more to rebuild and trade with foreign nations. The Barows faction has of late been somewhat on the decline, though they are still powerful; a recent war with the neighboring New Armes Kingdom was fought on Barows-allied lands, while the Godwins remained safe and untouched in the west of Falena, perhaps explaining the Barows wish to not further antagonize Armes. The royal family and others worry that if a Godwin or Barows were to win, it might well trigger another struggle.

A key part of the Suikoden setting is the existence of Runes, the source of all magic. Any person can have a rune inscribed on them, although some people are more talented in their use, and others can inscribe more than one rune (with three as the general maximum). In turn, all power from individual carved runes ultimately descends from the powerful 27 True Runes, which created the world in Suikoden's mythology. Falena's national treasure is the Sun Rune, a True Rune which can both bring prosperity and growth as well as destruction and calamity. Falena also controls the "child" runes of the Sun Rune, the Dawn Rune and Twilight Rune.

However, Falena's grip on the runes has gone somewhat awry. Two years prior to the start of Suikoden V, residents of Lordlake rioted and charged the East Palace, near the capital of Sol-Falena. In the confusion, the Dawn Rune, which was housed there, was stolen. Lordlake had previously been considered the most loyal of all the towns to the royal government and granted special privileges. With this seeming act of high treason by Lordlake, Arshtat took the Sun Rune upon herself, normally stored in Sol-Falena's palace on a pedestal, and used the Rune's power to scorch Lordlake's vegetation, wildlife, and river, killing its leader Lord Rovere in the process. Since bearing the Sun Rune, the normally compassionate Arshtat has grown more and more erratic in behavior, prone to mood swings and wild fits of vengeance.

The game features significant enhancements from all the previous installments in the series, including 6-member battle parties, multiple mini-games, the homebase system, and many other new features.

Unlike all its karaoke counterparts, Rock of the Dead pits the user against an army of zombies that take anywhere from up to three- or four-strum combos to take out. It’s like a typing game where you type certain words (like ZAP for a weak monster, SYMPHONY for a large monster), except in this case you strum on a peripheral guitar instead. There are a couple modes—easy and normal for an adequate challenge, and Hard or Expert for true rockstrs unafraid of knocking out difficult multi-button chords. Unlike Real Heroes: Firefighter, Rock of the Dead is a more campy title, in that it’s “unrealistic and cartoony.” Plus it trades in real rock titles in favor of remixes of the classics. However the gameplay includes jump-in/jump-out and up to two-player coop or competitive.

Similar to NHL 2K11 from Take Two, Slapshot is exclusive to the Nintendo Wii console and is set to release on September 7th, 2010. Aimed towards younger gamers, this game features "Pee Wee" mode, a method of gameplay that begins with kids playing hockey on a backyard ice rink that progresses into amateur and college leagues before reaching the NHL. A dedicated hockey stick controller is included with the game that takes on the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii sensor bar, allowing players to turn, shoot, and body-check through a variety of different motions. Alternative to other leading hockey video games, Slapshot features less of a learning curve and has a lower overall difficulty, resulting in higher-scoring games and potentially increasing appeal to youth gamers. The game is endorsed by Wayne Gretzky, who appears as both a regular playable character and a character in Pee Wee mode. Slapshot also features the latest NHL teams and athlete rosters, as well as updated versions of classic player modes like the Stanley Cup finals.

Gameplay is a combination of tactical role-playing action (exchanging goods, weaponry upgrades, and factions) and unbridled horror.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is the fifth installment in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series for the Nintendo DS, and was released in 2009. As with previous games, the story follows a human who is mysteriously transformed into a Pokémon, which is determined by a personality test at the beginning of gameplay. Five additional starters have been added to the existing starters, Phanpy, Riolu, Shinx, Eevee, and Vulpix, with two removals, Munchlax and Meowth. Explorers of Sky expands upon the story showing what happened to Grovyle the Thief and how the Wigglytuff Guild comes together.
