Even with the addition of former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr to the line-up, and Shins James Mercer adding lovely vocals to "Florida", We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank isn't as radio-friendly as the previous album (Good News for People who Love Bad News).  This doesn't mean it isn't a good album.... because it is....it just feels less "complete" of a concept album.  After a few listens, standout songs like "Missed the Boat", "Education", and "Dashboard" will be buzzing in your head.

Modest Mouse's previous album was definitely one of the best ever. I think I had it on repeat for about a year. So I can forgive them a little bit if this one isn't as fantastic.

If you like Modest Mouse, you will love this album....if you are looking to get into MM, first check out Good News for People Who Love Bad News. The Moon & Antarctica is also a great album, and has more of a "space-atmosphere" sound. I like all three albums and they all have their own conceptual production and sound.
