The Western Digital My Book Elite 2nd-gen is an environmentally friendly, ultra-portable external hard drive engineered for both Windows and Macintosh laptops or notebooks. It utilizes a USB 2.0 interface to connect and is available in extra-large capacity sizes: 640GB, 1TB, 1.2TB, and 2TB. Unique to the My Book Elite is its Smart Display, which allows users to manufacture an ‘e-label’ that appears on the frame of the unit and reminds the user of what’s stored on the drive. Even more noticeable is the addition of WD SmartWare software, which presents a visual control center where users can monitor, back-up, and secure all their data. In fact, the software allows for both password protection AND 256-bit hardware-based encryption.
